Or not, says National Geographic. While many people plan on spending Saturday Night outside to view our friendly planet, they will be wasting their time. It is all a big E-Mail hoax. "The Red Planet is about to be spectacular!" is untrue.

E-Mail hoaxes have been around for a while now. There are a couple of reasons for them, one being just curiosity, and the second to scam money from people. Luckily, this wasn't the latter of the two.

what the email claimed, imo. The reader is left to assume the contents of the email, despite it being explained in the source, and the availability of a third paragraph for the summary.

the email that states "Hi I am a one legged prostitute from Mexico that was never given a chance and I have no money" etc etc etc. The hard luck ones crack me up since you have to wonder where they get their internet access from (even tho some homeless shelters have email believe it or not).

I got the email at work from a co-worker that Mars was going to be really close and Googled it which allowed me to come to the conclusion that the exact text in the email was from an article on the 2003 event.
Someone wasn't paying attention.
