Armed dolphins, which were trained to shoot terrorists and pinpoint the location of underwater spies, may be missing. The US Navy refuses to confirm whether any of their dolphins are missing but other experts studying the mammals claim they are.
The 36 dolphins may be carrying "toxic dart guns" and could put the lives of surfers and divers at risk. The coastal compound where the dolphins live was breached during Hurricane Katrina and swept them out to sea.
A respected investigator who has previously worked for the government says his sources say the dolphins have escaped. "My concern is that they have learnt to shoot at divers in wetsuits who have simulated terrorists in exercises," he said.
