Deadly Typhoon Hits Vietnam

 

Typhoon Damrey has slammed into Vietnam after wreaking havoc on China and leaving at least 16 people dead on the Chinese island of Hainan. The financial damage done to Hainan by Damrey is estimated to be around 10 billion yuan.

According to the Vietnam state newspaper, Thien Phong, one person has been killed there by Damrey, where the typhoon landed in the country's Thanh Hoa province. Thousands had been hurriedly evacuated before Damrey could hit.

 I'm from vietnam and i'm happy to hear only one person has been killed. It a tragedy of course, but it could've been worse seeing how vietnam is a "developing" country.

 "developing" country means nothing ……it’s a euphuism used to make it sound like these countries are slow or late starters or the people are a little lazy ( you know mañana mañana and all that ) most countries labeled this way are countries that have been horribly repressed in the name of corporate capitalism had their riches stolen and their people forced to work for slave wages .

Take a look at India (used to be a very rich economy then the brits chimed in and trashed their textile industry and made them become a primary producer) same done by the US in Columbia and most of Latin America , etc etc

As M Parenti said

"developing nation” implies that poverty was an original historic condition and not something imposed by the imperialists. It also falsely suggests that these countries are developing when actually their economic conditions are usually worsening.
