Al-Qaeda No. 2 Man Killed

Al-Qaeda No. 2 leader in Iraq, Abu Azzam, was fatally shot Sunday night in a house near Baghdad a U.S. military spokesman said in Iraq.

Abu Azzam was an aide and personal friend to the militant leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al Qaeda. Abu Azzam, was 'the second-most wanted Al-Qaeda person in Iraq', according to the US military.

"This creates a void for al Qaeda in Iraq, in their leadership, for a while," the spokesman said.

He is not the #2 man in al-qaeda, that is for al-zawahiri.

  What happened to Bin Laden?

Well whatever number he was or with whatever group, number 3 is now number 2 so it really makes no difference.

  Don't forget their kids, too.

These kids wont see their dead dads and say 'It was for freedom!'.
No, they'll see 'the infidels killed my dad'. What would you do? By the way, how many damn #2s are there in this organization. It seems every now and again they release stuff like this to bolster the validity of our purpose. Crazy...

He is the #2 in iraq. The title made it seem like the #2 in the organization.

  Al Quaeda isn't an organization

- with number one and number two. American media loves to make it up like that, and this story is a funny example of that. Now Al Quaeda not only is an organization, it appears to have an "Iraq division", and now some person with a specific rank within that division got killed.

Frankly it's like saying the number two guy in Christianity got killed. WHO exacly is that?

Al Quaeda is a movement. There are high profile people, and this guy was a high profile. But to seek reassurance in the fact that he was "number two" just shows that the US army intelligence still has no clue what they are up against.

And incidently, killing number two just means someone else is now number two. That is, if there was such an organizational hierarchy, of course.

  accomplishes nothing

Every single al qaida member is trained to be a leader. All the U.S. has done is, in their eyes, kill yet another person willing to fight to defend Islam against the West. His name will be used to stir hearts and win thousands of new recruits.

Nope, you're wrong. Sorry.

  not really

Although al-queda will have some people more capable of leading than others.
Killing one doesnt create the same power vacuum killing a US general would.

People follow the leaders becuase they agree with what they day, not becuase they are of a higher rank.
You cant behead a swarm.

Possibly, some minor infighting will result, but thats hardly uncommon anyway.

  Did you ever notice...

...that they always get the #2 man? I think they've killed the #2 man like 15 times in the last 2 years, but he keeps coming back. Who is this indestructible #2 man, and why can't they ever find the #1 man?

Maybe No.2 stands for anyone who is willing to stick around waiting for U.S. to bomb the hell out of them...while at the same time striking fear into the camel back riding citizens...errr wait was that Iraq or Afghanistan?

Same thing...it is U.S. propaganda at work...how can we take the word of a military spokesmans in Iraq when they've been stopping reporters from doing some real coverage?

Ask a soldier that has been over there from the start and he'll tell you tons of things you don't hear from all those military spokesman people. Or from the fanatical patriotic men/women serving over there for their beloved country (U.S.)

If North America was attacked and it was an all out war against us...I'd sign up and fight my heart out to protect it but not at the cost of losing my true understanding of things.

We've lost our understanding the day 911 happen.
