The Italian capital’s town council announced on Tuesday that regular dog-walks are now mandatory within Rome. It also banned goldfish bowls, which are cruel according to animal rights activists.
Italy recently passed a law allowing for jail sentences for people who abandon cats or dogs and banned the docking of pets' tails for aesthetic reasons.
The councilor behind the by-law, Monica Cirinna told reporters "It's good to do whatever we can for our animals who in exchange for a little love fill our existence with their attention".
