Michael Brown, the former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency has defended FEMA's decision to keep him on the job for another month, telling reporters it was a "completely legitimate thing to do."
Brown, who resigned on Sept. 12 after being heavily criticized for FEMA's response in dealing with hurricane Katrina, will helping the agency in studying its response to the disaster.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told reporters "We don't want to sacrifice the real ability to get a full picture of Mike's experiences; we don't want to sacrifice that ability simply in order to make an image point."
