Pro-Evolution Web Site Sued Because it Receives Public Funds
Jeanne and Larry Caldwell of Granite Bay, California, have sued the operators of a University of California-Berkeley Web site that helps teachers teach evolution. They propose that the belief of evolution is a religion.
The Berkely Web site receives some funding through a public money grant from the National Science Foundation. The Caldwells feel that this amounts to a government endorsement of certain religious groups over others.
They say that the site is an effort "to modify the beliefs of public school science students so they will be more willing to accept evolutionary theory as true." They also claim that they are not proponents of 'Intelligent Design.'
This just in during an undercover investigation math classes found to be shockingly modifying the beliefs of public school students so they will be more willing to accept that 1 + 1 = 2
no shit! I think its funny that such individuals want people to leave their privet schools alone but wish to launch an attack on scientific theories and studies that contradict their beliefs about creation.
First of all, it's funded by the National Science Foundation. I believe it's upto them to decide how they're spending will be spent, not some couple. If they disagree that their tax dollars are not where they want them to be, then fine, go ahead, why don't we all choose where our tax dollars go?
2nd, evolution is not religion. Evolution is a theory. A widely accepted theory throughout the scientific community. If they can't get the concept of a SCIENTIFIC theory being in a SCIENCE classroom or being funded by the national SCIENCE foundation. Then you know what? I dunno what because official, the world is gone nutz.
Please? Really, I am so damned tired of this crap. There's not even anything intelligent to say about this, because nothing at all intelligent inspired it. This couple, who I hope will not breed so they can only screw up small domesticated animals, has not only shown that they have no idea what evolution (or science) is, but that they do not know what religion is. Amazing...
Suing a university for having a scientific website with scientific information that is supported by a scientific foundation for a scientific class, that's just what happens in America, land of the increasingly dumb. I should be allowed to sue them for using tax exempt status of religion that they use to throw their sh*t at us. I want to sue them for going door to door, and having all sorts of ads everywhere trying to convert unknowing morons. I want to sue them for the sheer stupidity of suing someone over this. Their private schools are funded by the government, I believe that, also, is "unfair" use of tax dollars. It's being used to teach morons about fundamentalist ideas that have no real merit. Sue as they might, 1+1 is always going to equal 2, and they cannot change it. Also: to the moron who said evolution is a commie idea, go f*ck yourself
this will be thrown out immediatly, NSF is a private non-profit organization and can give funds to whomever they wish, a decision of this merit would equate to the Christian Coalition being unable to donate funds to pro-life causes.
The funniest thing is that the vatican recently said that intelligent design is not science. And yet they continue to go down this path in this country. Also what is the deal with these pro- labels. because nobody is anti- anything you're either pro-creationism or pro-evolution. What the hell is that anyway. I just think that science and religion are trying to do two seperate things. Science is explaining how things work, and religion is explaining the meaning or why they work. These two can easily coexist, and I don't see science organizing to prevent religion from being taught.
Are you intentionally trying to deceive potential readers? Because I can imagine no-one stupid enough to believe what you just said, based on starshadow's post.
1a) Evolution does not require a supernatural power, nor reverence thereof.
1b) Evolution is not a belief, it's a science.
2) Evolution is not a religious order.
3) Evolution is not a set of beliefs, is in no way related to values, and has no specific practices. Evolution has no spiritual leader.
As for 'some believe in god some believe in evolution, its all religions' Many scientists believe in god, and accept evolution, while religions are mutually exclusive.
I should point out that religions don't have to be mutually exclusive, unless you want to be overly picky and redefine certain religions as not religions anymore.
In case someone is confused about the "evolution is not a belief, it is a science" part, I'll add that evolution makes no claims about the origin of life itself or the creation of the universe. It's a natural science based on observable phenomena.
I had a few e-mail exchanges with his wife, Jeanne, with me trying to explain the stupidity of the suit. She just responded with a few vapid little statements. Eventually, he responded, and I sent him a long e-mail pointing out the legal and logical shortcomings of his suit.
He hasn't responded. I hope he does better in court.
I'll be interested to see how he can argue that they're simultaneously endorsing multiple mutually-exclusive religions at the same time. Its a bit like say that the Earth is round and flat.
