Harry Reid Says this Congress is the Most Corrupt Ever
Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said today on 'FOX News Sunday' that this Republican-led Congress is "the most corrupt in history." He went on to distance himself from lobbyist Jack Abramoff who is being investigated for illegal payoffs.
"Don't lump me in with Jack Abramoff. This is a Republican scandal," he said, and was adamant that he never received bribes from Abramoff. However, Reid, like many Democrats and Republicans, has received campaign contributions from Abramoff clients.
"America can do better than what we've done," said Reid. "The most corrupt Congress in the history of the country. We have such significant problems with what's going on in this country."
I doubt it is possible for an honest person to get elected. And if one ever did get elected they would either frame him or kill him for being a threat.
No more trying to get reelected. Just go serve the people and get out. A 10 year restriction from lobbying too. Yuo can't leave congress one day and come back the next as a lobbyist. No more dream retirement either. You serve, you get paid, thanks, you're still just a normal person. Save for your retirement like the rest of us. These people need to be brought back down to earth.
You mean the same congress that voted to increase their pay every year because of the "Cost of Living" increases but haven't rasied the minimum wage in years might be corrupt.
And what does it matter what Harry Potter..oops I mean Harry Reid say anyways. Congress has always been corrupt and probably always will no matter who is the majority. This is not even news if you ask me it is just some idiot spatting off at the mouth in every attempt possible to lash at the best government officials of his lifetime.
By what standards? The most members of a political party under investigaion? Yup. The largest trade deficit in history? Yup. The biggest turn-around in federal deficit? Yup. The highest number of unqualified stooges placed into federal agencies? That too. Damn, you're right. The best government officials in his lifetime, possibly even the history of the country.
Election by combat. the last man standing gets the contested office untill the next contender takes it from him or her. Charge admission it would cut the national debt.
i don't think it's the most corrupt ever, just the most cocky. surely, the republicans have more power and money than ever before, so they think they're above the law. they don't even bother to cover-up their lies. we're just so jadded with politicians that we accept it. i think america has lied to its citizens ever since it tried to pass itself off as a democracy. we've bought that lie all the way up to present day. this administration is just a lot more transparent. at least now we can see what our country is really all about.
There's only so many lies that the public will swallow or allow to be pushed on them before the revolt occurs. Luckily, this is a 'Democratic' society so we can peacefully remove the current administration via impeachment or just vote in a better leadership next elections.
That's the ideal upon which the USA was founded. Checks and Balances. Bush never studied U.S. History so he doesn't know this.
He was just a drugged out rich drunk college frat boy who destroys everything he touches. Somehow they thought he would be a good puppet.
being able to remove the current administration does not necessarily make this a democratic society. the fact that we have representatives at all, or the constant voter fraud casts doubts in my mind. not to mention that every president has been a WASP with the exception of kennedy (and look at what happened to him). a truly democratic society is in the hands of the people, not just a small minority of rich white men. if we get rid of bush things will obviously be better, but still not democratic.
The United States is NOT a Democracy, thats more brainwash they gave you in school. We're a Republic, based on the Republican idealogy that the bum walking down the street cannot make important decisions himself, so he has to elect some bigger moron to make important decisions for him. Like wheather or not that same bum will be drafted.
@theironboard -- "That's the ideal upon which the USA was founded. Checks and Balances. Bush never studied U.S. History so he doesn't know this."
Correction, the ideals of America can be found in the simple words "The UNITED states of america."
Sadly enough, we're no more the United States, we're more like "America". I swear we should kill the idea now that we're United States when the Federal Government has taken away most state power, a divine right by the Constitution. Personally thats why I'm against Bush. He calls himself a Republican but has yet to give States more power and lower taxes. Funny, the Democrats don't want him, the Republicans dont want him, maybe the Neo-Nazi party will take him...
Ugh, more partisan drivel...when we last had a Democratic President, you'd think that the nation was on the verge of a moral meltdown by listening to the Republicans. A politician will always exploit the situation, but like any message, the question is how much truth is there likely to be to it? Given the number of scandals aired and investigations pending, combined with the lack of oversight and restraint the Republicans have had, I think it would be foolish to dismiss Reid's words.
We have a Republican President and I'm convinced we're on the verge of a moral meltdown. Hell, the Abstinence Program worked for teens, we discovered intercourse was unsafe and oral safe, combine this with everything else goin on, like homosexual rights, yea, we're on the verge of a moral meltdown. I think what we should be looking at is whose encouraging it more, the Republicans or the Democrats? (And I probably just took your comment WAY out of context, so my apologies if I did)
"We have a Republican President and I'm convinced we're on the verge of a moral meltdown."
Agreed, but I doubt for the same reasons. Let's look at yours...
"Hell, the Abstinence Program worked for teens,"
No, it didn't. Proof?
"we discovered intercourse was unsafe and oral safe,"
I don't really know what you're trying to say here. Oral sex is not "safe," and no one is teaching that it is. Quite the opposite is true, in fact.
"combine this with everything else goin on, like homosexual rights, yea, we're on the verge of a moral meltdown."
Do I have to ridicule you for making the assertion that extending equal rights to a group of people is morally wrong? I'd really rather not, so unless you have a very strong case to make, I suggest you abandon this argument here.
Here's my challenge to you - if you believe there is some great moral meltdown occuring, show me the results. Show me the social decay tearing our society apart. Show me the relationships in Massachusetts that have ended as a result of homosexuals marrying in that state. Show me the chaos in the streets, and we'll have much to discuss.
"I think what we should be looking at is whose encouraging it more, the Republicans or the Democrats?"
My point was the inclination of ALL politicians to exploit situations but that this does not negate truth behind their message, but let's continue with this.
What problems are plaguing our society today, and why? The divorce rate in the US is over 50%. How many homosexual couples married to cause this? Not one. Could the idea of the nuclear family as the end-all, be-all be the cause? People are told they must marry, raise kids, etc etc to be normal and successful. Is it any wonder then that people rush into it? This is the ideal of the family-values crowd, and they've thrown in their lot with the Republicans. Moreover, though, they've scapegoated totally unrelated people and turned a blind eye to the problem - again, with the help of Republican lawmakers. Are gays the problem with marriage? No, refusal to look at the problem with marriage is the reason for the problems of marriage.
What else is crumbling in society? How about personal responsibility? The motto of this administration ought to be "He did it," so I don't think I need to say too much about that. I think both sides can be blamed for actions and programs which have eroded this at one point or another, but I think the example set by our politicians right now speaks very, very loudly. Democratic measures may have sent us down the hill, but the Republicans are leading us there right now. Obviously, dishonesty, too, is a problem in America today. How many Republicans have been indicted lately, again? How many are under investigation?
Most of all, though, partisanship and ignorance are the scourge of this nation. I blame this squarely on the Republican politicians and talking heads, who have been playing on fears and using charismatic authority figures to dictate to people what they ought to believe. They've used wedge issues to drive this nation apart. Congress inserted itself into one family's personal medical decisions, taking special action to do so! The Democrats weren't on board for that one. Republicans have used ideology and dogma to whip their base into a frenzy for their benefit. Democrats have been called disorganized and without ideas for not doing this, but for that I give them credit. They, too, have their talking points, but mostly any behavior in this fashion on thier part has been a reaction to the opposition. The divisiveness is sickening. Books titled, "How to Talk to Liberals (If You Must)?" Talk show hosts coaching listeners on how to talk to left-leaning relatives over the holidays, focusing on avoiding real discussion? Look at the way the word "Liberal" is thrown around to describe anyone who merely disagrees. Partisanship may have always existed, but the far right has made an art of pitting brother against brother.
Now, I assume you would blame the Democrats for causing more of this moral decay. If so, why?
