Sout Korea's Hwang Woo-suk has resigned today as a professor at Seoul National University. Early this morning, local time, a panel from the University found that Hwang had damaged "the foundation of science" by fabricating test results.
In a statement to reporters, Hwang said: "I sincerely apologize to the people for creating a shock and disappointment. With an apologetic heart ... I step down as professor of Seoul National University."
The finding by the panel seems to confirm that Hwang's research into cloning and stem-cell technologies was not all it was cracked up to be. South Korea's government, one of Hwang's strongest supporters, said it was "miserable" over the findings.
