I'm waiting for the RIAA to be sued for monopolizing the music industry. I find it outrageous (sp?) that Microsoft gets sued for monopolizing a market, and the RIAA doesnt get sued for monopolizing the industry through confederation. Every big name music company is in it, so how is the little guy to compete? Hmm, I guess thats why Indie Music all of a sudden became a genre.
Though I never did understand the logic of these lawsuits. Sue the customer? Hmm...sounds like a smart idea...sue the people who allow you to take fat Christmas bonuses...Not to mention you are already selling us $15 cds that we both know only has one-three good songs on there, which are the only songs the customer wanted to begin with. But lets just sue all of them, hmm...16,000, multiply that by four (assuming at least four people get pissed at the RIAA for suing their friend or relative), and they boycott your music...thats about 64,000. Now lets say those 4 people buy one cd a year (priced $15), thats $960,000. Honestly, is $15,000 worth the 960,000 they could lose? Wheres the logic in these lawsuits? I spent 3 years boycotting RIAA, and have spent the last few months on a Russian website.
These guys lost the war because of sheer lack of foresighting. They should've tried to work with Napster, or set up CHEAP digital music markets. They have set them up (like itunes) but they still ain't cheap. 2.50 for one song? Wow..you're still trying to cheat me here. Who earns most of this money again? The artist? Uh yea...right...
My advice to the rest of ya: two nice websites:
http://www.boycottriaa.com (to obviously find out more about the RIAA's antics). And
http://www.mp3search.ru --Screw the RIAA, pay Russian prices! Which in USD, comes out to a very nice, very affordable, .10 per song, and an average of $1 per cd. (They pay royalties to the companies apparently too)
