Rowling Dreads Writing Last Potter Book

On her official website author J K Rowling has admitted "I can't quite imagine life without Harry." She also said that she has mixed feelings about writing the seventh and last book in the Potter series.

"I contemplate the task with mingled feelings of excitement and dread, because I can't wait to get started," she wrote in the diary of her website.

Rowling also said that she has been polishing up the fine-tuned plan for book seven, and that the real writing will start in January.

If it can be said that she is a substandard writer who plagarised many of her ideas from other, superior authors, then it can be said that the masses to whom she appeals, must be substandard readers.

  ...Well.

Most of them are kids. Geez. And I don't think kids really give a damn about what adults would gripe about, concerning Harry Potter.

  Well

I think the judgement on her as an author should be decided by her success. In that case, she would be pretty good.

 by: kcking05     12/27/2005 11:17 PM
  Yes, and...

Her success can be determined by the number of kids she has brought to the reading world. Or the kids she has kept there. Inspiration is worth it's weight, you know.

  Wait

What exactly was plagerized?
Its still a pretty original type of thing.. I mean these days originality is not very easy, really.
Everythings been done, so of course you can cry rip off of something else cause it exists in one version or form or another right?

Plus Harry Potter aint all bad, movies are entertaining.

  ...Like art...

Everything is derivative at this point. People are exposed to things, then they do their "own" and it can't help but be inspired.

But why is this a bad thing? I know lots of people have this huge life-goal to "be different!" but when you break it down... we're really all much the same.

 by: Dayron   12/27/2005 11:44 PM
  Well...

Neither the books or movies appeal to me. Mostly because I'm not a child. I couldn't care less if there is or isn't a 7th book.

  The books are great

I can slip off to her worlds in her words.
There is a place for Harry Potter, there is a place for Tolstoi.
It's not one or the other. Thats to limiting.

  Huh?

There is the same amount of genius these days as at anytime. It's just there is more and more plankton in this ocean, as the middle class western world have lots of time and lots of money to spend playing guitars, setting up home studios, incessantly photographing things with video cameras or writing self-help books. It is beneficial in corporate terms that the masses believe anyone can write a song, read a book, make a film. It is huge business.

Divine inspiration and talent is just as rare as always. History compresses all the instances of originality into a nice compilation album that you can pick up at your local store. So it appears like there was more originality in every contemporaneous moment of the past compared with now.

I haven't read Harry Potter and I should state that I have no opinion on JK Rowling.

However,I am glad that it has helped children love reading.

"the middle class western world have lots of time and lots of money to spend playing guitars, setting up home studios, incessantly photographing things with video cameras or writing self-help books"

i disagree. in past centuries the arts were practiced by the masses much more than they are today. painting and music, for example, have become more specialized since we now have ways to record and reproduce them. before lithography the only way you could own a painting is if you painted one yourself, or had enough money to commission a painter. most everyone enjoyed painting as a hobby. as lithography emerged and became good enough to reproduce paintings there was no need for you to spend years painting when you could buy the mona lisa for a couple bucks. likewise, most everyone knew how to play at least one musical instrument before the days of recorded music. before then if you wanted to hear music you had to play it yourself. if anything we've separated ourselves from the arts, and left the hard work up to people we deem as professionals.

  LOL

People say she plagerized Chronicles of Narnia? What kind of crack were they smoking? Totally different story lines. They may share very few similar topics, but don't all stories like thosse have a villain and a hero or heros? *G* Nothing new there, but Harry Potter is not a rip off of some of these books people claim.

M. Night S's Village movie on the other hand...seen it before in a few other movies and books...now THERE is a plagerized something or other!

  Titles

Lets come up with some good last Potter book titles..

Harry Potter and a Different Kind of Love

 by: jediman3     12/28/2005 03:52 PM
There's a generator for Harry Potter titles.

http://www.seventhsanctum.com/
Harry Potter and the Executioner of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Elixir of Ravenclaw
Harry Potter and the Marvelous Dreams
Harry Potter and the Bone Immortality
Harry Potter and the Bone of Ravenclaw
Harry Potter and the Cape of the Giant

THough a lot of the title seem more suited for a Charlie Bone story than a Harry Potter.
