Abramoff Pleads Guilty to Fraud, Will Help in Republican Corruption Probe

Formerly a powerful Washington lobbyist, Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to charges that he and a former aide to Tom DeLay bilked an Indian tribe out of millions, which they spent on golfing, expensive dinners, sports tickets and themselves.

Abramoff's plea and agreement to cooperate in an investigation of other top Republican lawmakers means his 30-year sentence is reduced to 9 1/2 to 11 years. He will also pay fines of at least $26.7 million U.S.

DeLay and Rep. Bob Ney, R.-Ohio, are already targeted in an investigation into whether Abramoff and his clients received preferential legislative treatment in exchange for campaign contributions and gifts.

I grant you they are mostly republicans but before a republican says it I would like to point out some Democrats are also evolved.

The Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert gave away the money he received from Abramoff... so I guess he is off the hook.

And the house of cards comes tumbling down.

I really don't care if they are Repubs or Dems, they are all criminals. I hope they enjoy the big house. No country club prison for these snakes, sent them to general population and make an example of them. Put the fear of being buggered in the hearts (and other areas) of the rest of those in elected office. Bye bye scumbags. Over 20 now being investgated and the list is growing. Good. Justice for Just us.

The checks and balances of the American Federal system is completely hacked.

You've heard me rant and rave against lobbyists before-- they are too powerful and too insensitive to the truth for anyone's benefit except their own.

This internal hemorraghing has got to stop.

"Justice for Just us."

That puts me in mind of a Terry Pratchett quote: (Death says to Mort) "There is no justice, there's just us.
