NSA Spied on Peace Group

In documents released by the NSA, it has been shown that the NSA conducted surveillance of a Quaker-linked anti-war group called Pledge of Resistance in July of 2004. The group is part of a nationwide nonviolent civil resistance group.

The documents contain a log of reports filed every 15 minutes of the group's activities. The details include everything from license plates to the number of balloons used. Three protestors were arrested, but their charges were later dropped.

The documents also show that for a later protest by the group, the NSA would have video surveillance, K9 patrols, officers armed with shotguns, as well as a WMD response team. The later protest was planned to occur at the NSA during a "Family Day".

The NSA has gone too far in my opinion, if you read the source atricle there are alot of key points left out in this atricle. This in combination with Ohio's pending patriot act means to me we have our own secret police force, and a checkpoint at one of the gateways to the midwest where they will arrest you for not showing your papers on demand. Our country is going to far with this, dont punish your citizens you should punish those who harm your citizens. I hope somehow the NSA gets ahold of this comment so they can read this....SUCK MY TESTICLES COVERED IN HONEY!!!

  covered in honey?

that doesn't sound so bad. covered in kimchi would be less appetizing.

however, this is nothing new. the public has known about this since Fahrenheit 9/11 came out. so what have we done to stop this tyranny? re-elected it for a second term! i''ve lost hope in any sort of reform short of revolution.

Sorry never say that Mike Moore movie he just likes to exploit an already fear based society to push his movies that suck anyhow. I would love to see him explode into ham like in Team America.

how can you criticize a movie you haven't seen? your opinion of it is based on what other people have told you.

"he just likes to exploit an already fear based society..."

actually, if you'd seen the movie, it goes into depth about how the administration has done just that. i suggest you watch the movie and then tell me how moore is exploiting peoples fears.

  Exploiting Fears

Actually watching his movie made me less affraid of people but more affraid of the government.

they do this to most organizations. Its mostly practice for the NSA agents. They use non-violent organizations to learn experiance for neo-nazi and other violent organizations. As if there will be a WMD in Quaker hands. Got to have the WMD personel practice somehow. But yes, having big brother watch you is very unnerving.

  Wait..isn't this old news?

Or to some of us it should be. I don't know how many of you actually watched Michael Moore's Fareignheight 911, but I remember him detailing that bit about the Bush administration spying on a peace group.

As for my opinion about the movie: Made me more conservative and after watching it, I suddenly had the urge to join the Army.

Who watches the spies?
How do we know they aren't abusing their unchecked power?

I don’t see how this keeps us safe spying on people not harming anything anyone or anything. They just disagree with the administration.

Old news or not it needs to be known.

  Let me see

Let me see if I got this right.. The group was a Quaker based Anti-War thing. Is nothing scared.. What is next the Amish based Anti-quilt movement.

"As for my opinion about the movie: Made me more conservative and after watching it, I suddenly had the urge to join the Army."

i'm curious. what parts of that movie would make you more conservative and willing to join the army?

well, the amish do have long taliban-esque beards. we'd better lock them all up just to make sure.

  by: manilaryce     01/12/2006 06:21 AM
  Um

What are you all worried about?
This isnt some big news scoop or scanadal, its NSA released documents.
And the only reason its even making news, is because of the fact Bush was in the news recently about authorising the NSA to 'spy' on Americans.

Big deal. Get used to it. We live in 'that' sort of an age.
If you cant handle it, go find a rock to hide under.

:)

  No that is asinine.

Power such as this has been abused before and will be again.

When Nixon 2.0 comes (If we know about him) I guess I will have to say I told you so.

Without a check there is no stopping such abuses.

  by: Emp3r0r     01/12/2006 07:02 AM
  This isnt new

The NSA, CIA, FBI, DEA, Local Police, ASIO, AFP, and other law enforcement agencies around the world, using tools at thier disposal to 'spy' on certain groups, is hardly anything new.
Its been going on for decades.
Why are people always getting worked up as if the sky is falling in?
(not saying you directly btw).

  by: Whipd+Kreem     01/12/2006 11:21 AM
  ...

It’s unconstitutional. There needs to be a warrant, it protects us from abuses like I have already stated.

Why is it such a jump, to think all this spying on people is wrong?

I’m not a criminal, I’m not a terrorist why should a I be spied upon.

Not all of this spying is “protecting” us. So if it’s not protecting us why are they doing it?

BTW one of the founding premises of the nation is an inherent distrust of individuals in power and this “trust me” shit is dangerous.

Actually none of it. I listened to an hour and a half of liberal propaganda, and after hearing his massively one sided bashing of the war, I was ready to enlist. Now I don't exactly agree with the Presidency right now, mainly due to the fact he has given the federal government a ridiculas amount of power and killing states rights. I was hoping we'd be getting another Reagan here. Obviously we didn't.

  Michael Moore?

Fahrenheit 9/11 is your best argument for keeping your rights?! What a whitewashing piece of crap that flick was. Search "Alex Jones" - he will tell you what's really goin on, and prove it. America needs to wake up. Actually, a lot have. Good luck, you're going to need it.

Moores movies are no more proaganda than the hours and hours of bull shit on fox news and right wing radio.
