Internet giant Yahoo! Inc. has announced it will be opening two new research labs; one in Spain and the other in Chile. The labs will be responsible for researching the best ways to go about information retrieval. They are a first for Yahoo!.
Prabhakar Raghavan, the head of Yahoo’s research labs, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Yahoo research to draw on the talent and knowledge across Europe and South America.” Exact employment and financial figures were not given.
The labs will be run by Ricardo Baeza-Yates, an information retrieval specialist and author of the textbook “Modern Information Retrieval”.
