Officials from the World Health Organisation have announced that a woman from the south of China has died from the H5N1 strain of the avian flu virus, which she tested positive for on the 17th of January.
The 29-year-old woman worked in a shop in a food market, though her shop sold seeds and nuts, not poultry. China has the world’s largest poultry population and as such is seen as a flashpoint for the bird flu virus.
The woman is the seventh person to die of bird flu in China.
