Sen. Kerry Tries to Muster Support for Alito Filibuster

With Democratic Senator John Kerry leading them, some democrats are hoping to be able to filibuster the appointment of Judge Samuel Alito to the US Supreme Court.

Kerry is concerned that the appointment of Judge Alito would tilt the balance of the high court towards the political-right. Kerry in a written statement said, "Judge Alito's confirmation would be an ideological coup on the Supreme Court.”

It is uncertain if the Democrats will have the votes that are necessary to filibuster Alito’s appointment. A minimum of 60 votes is required to overturn a filibuster.

  bah
Democrats don't have the balls to do it and Kerry isn't the man to do it.

Besides the Republicans will just use the nuclear option.

  Mmm
His dodging questions of Executive power are worrying...and most of the judges are republican nominated...not that that is significant but it shows that the democrats don't have much sway.
