Dixie Chicks Turn Up the Heat with ‘Not Ready to Make Nice’

The Dixie Chicks alienated themselves from Country radio back in 2003 when lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush. [SN reprted] Now they are back with a new sound and a new single that offers no apologies, ‘Not Ready to Make Nice.'

The new song is now in rotation in several major radio markets, but some stations are not quick to play it. “I think a lot of people are in a wait-and-see mode,” said Wade Jessen, director of Billboard’s country charts.

The new album, “Taking the Long Way,” is out May 23rd and is produced by rock and rap producer Rick Rubin. The CD is more rock-oriented. Maines said in January that she was “pretty much done” with country music and is still against the Iraq war.

  Here in Canada..
(verbally) skewering politicians, that includes the Prime Minister, is almost a national sport...

it should be! I really miss the day when you could call the president a murderer on the air and get away with it.

"Damn your matriarchal tyranny woman!"

I hear Presidential bashing on the radio all day. Or even see T-shirts in shops with Bush's face reading "Number 1 Terrorist"... It's a pretty popular thing... hating and criticizing the President.

But this is the South =( And nobody pays attention to poor us. Yeah, whatever.

Keep in mind, that the 30% that support Bush are probably divided into the megamillionaires and the Country loving folks of the South. I know that down here in south Texas, the news stations are kinda wary of reporting on national issues about the president. They tend to stick to local shootings, and that silly cat that fell 80 ft from the tree.

  Rock on Dixie Chicks
There sure was a lot of fallout when they first criticized the war. Now it seems the tide has turned and the numbers against the war have grown exponentially. If I recall right, in the 60’s there were a lot of rock bands that were criticized for their protests against the war in Viet Nam. They became very popular very quickly...even among the soldier in Nam. Rock on Dixie Chicks. Support our soldiers, not Dubya’s war of aggression.
