Dead Whales in Florida

Several rare, melon-headed whales have been euthanized or washed ashore in Florida this week. The latest whale to come ashore was in Hutchinson Island. The whales that were euthanized were determined to be too sick to be saved.

It's believed all whales that have died are from the same pod. Steve McCulloch from Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution said, "It's been kind of a wild goose chase, and we're not sure its over yet."

Necropsies performed on the dead whales have shown that they had not eaten in weeks and had stomach ulcers, a sign of stress.

  a sign of stress?

Aren't ulcers bacterially induced in the first place only to become worse later due to stress and the then increased acidity of the stomachs digestive juices?

  Not quite..

Stress weakens the lining of the stomach, which gives the bacteria a place to settle and do their damage.

  Mystery

This is one answer they have to find and soon, if it is a bacteria then it must be found and somehow dealt with (lord knows how).
Such a sad story.
