Powergen Announces India Call Centre Closures – Returns to UK

Energy company Powergen has announced that it will be closing its call centres in India and moving customer service to the United Kingdom, creating some 450 new jobs in Essex, Nottingham, Bedord, Bolton and Leicester.

Powergen’s managing director, Nick Horler, said: "When customers contact us they need to be confident that their query will be fully resolved quickly." Horler was also sure to maintain that offshore call centres were fine for some industries.

"However, we believe that we can best achieve industry-leading customer service by operating solely in the UK.” Powergen moved its customer service call centre to India five years ago, citing cost reductions for the company.

  YES!

Though I am not in the UK, this is good news the world over. Hopefully more companies will follow their lead. Indians are great people, I am just sick to death of not being able to talk to someone I can easily understand. Yes this is my problem, but I am the paying customer. I find I dont have a problem with their accent when I can see them talk (I work with about 6 Indians), but on the phone its far to hard when I have to call them on a nearly daily basis.

  Oh Hallelujah!

Someone finally pulled their head out of their butt and figured this one out. Did they finally listen to their customers constant complaints about sh!tty customer service? I am shocked and amazed.

I am so tired of being transferred from one dept to another, put on hold for half an hour at a time and then being cut off. Overseas call centers suck PERIOD! I have yet to talk to one that could help me with anything other than constant frustration. Last year I spent 42 hours over a 3 month period trying to get a Dell printer in for service. At the end they told me the warranty had just expired and they couldn’t help me anymore. They never helped me in the first place. Dell go to Hell! And take your call center with you. If you are so cheap you want to sent my help center to India, send the rest of the business there too and don’t try to sell me anything, I won’t buy it. I have had enough corporate abuse.

Now why can’t our congress and president do the same and listen to “we the people”? We are their customers.

i realy hope opening up in india

cost them lots of money. These people closed the UK call centers to make a quick proffit and in the end would have cost them more in lost buisiness. This is happeneing more and more as the companies realise that poor Customer services = loss of customers. Having worked in the Customer service industry i am happy because this creates job security.

  bleh...

Lost one of my jobs to outsourcing this way so it's nice to see at least one company go back where they came from.

Hell I don't even need english to be their first language just one that they can use and understand well.

  This is terriffic

Now if only Dell and the others would do the same. I can't believe our crappy president is actually condoning and encouraging outsourcing to India. Oh wait, he's doing everything else wrong too, yes I can believe it.

  Outsourcing

is very popular among US Republican management. Anything that eliminates American jobs makes them cream in their Armani suits.

  Dell

Although i only had one problem with dell, it wasn't that bad. Sure when i got connected to a singaporian/malyasian call centre i thought i was doomed until they sent an email bascially saying all i needed to know, i replyed and i got a new one
