Monopoly Gets Electronic Banking Upgrade

The ever popular game of real-estate dominance "Monopoly" marketed by Parker Brothers is now available in completely paper money free versions.

The new versions sport a VISA branded smart card and a simple electronic reader. The banker reads and updates players' electronic bank balances by inserting the VISA card into the reader and using the keypad to perform payments and transfers.

The traditional cash versions of the game will remain, but both games will feature revamped property prices, fines and charges. "We wanted to design a more relevant version of Monopoly to reflect modern society."

  No way...
You remember when you were a kid playing Monopoly? You could gloat to everyone with your thick stack of money...your revenues were directly visible; half the fun was flaunting it! Of course if you were losing, the reverse would be true ;) I don't know- perhaps it will make cleaning the mess easier to do!

Cheers ;)

  might as well
go play the pc version of it, comes with music too, and "virtual opponents."

On the pc yes. Otherwise, someone always seemed to leave the board or the cash would get stolen :(

what will monopoly be when you don't even need to count how much money you have? how can you feel rich holding a visa..."this has like 5 million on it, i swear!"

and now monopoly will be a game of deception. you could bluff that you have all kinds of money when you have 2 bucks left and only the banker would know. that's not right!

all i can say is thank god they're still going to sell the traditional version.

  by: DarkAngelJG     07/26/2006 09:59 PM
electronic monopoly is for retards who cant count at all (i think that was said)... old school all the way man, dont ruin a great game. oh yea, my family actually did finish a whole game :D

common now, stealing the money is half the game!
  by: starlock   07/27/2006 04:46 AM
no shit its just like the real world rip people off for money.
  by: Emp3r0r     07/27/2006 05:00 AM
hehe no thugs here..lost would also be another word 2 add, or pick one note while not looking.

The pc version is fun if you can't get people to join a board version. It's multiplayer too.

People still have time to play the board game, been ages.

Well it does sort of reflect the trend of our world atm, online banking etc, but yea they're messing a classic; thats what makes it so special. Sweet memories. Like the 1st superman movie haha, and so on. :)

I'm not to sure this will sell very well, I don't know about anyone else but most of the fun of the game is handling the money, playing the PC versions sucks ass because you don't handle the money. But I'll probably still buy one just to have it.
