Chavez Withdraws Israel Ambassador

Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president, has decided to recall his country's ambassador to Israel as a sign of his "indignation" over the military offensive currently underway in Lebanon.

Speaking of the attacks, Chavez said “Hitler's actions must be criticized, not just against the Jews but against the world. It's also fascism what Israel is doing to the Palestinian people ... terrorism and fascism."

Chavez has until now maintained good relations with Israeli. He also insisted that his government will continue to fully respect the Venezuelan Jewish community despite its opposition to the war.

ASSESS this news: BLOCK this news. Reason:
like anyone gives a crap . Mind you the Hitler thing is what's on everyone’s mind . Just like Chavez to say the emperor has no clothes.

  Smooth move

  I Think Iran's Prez One-Upped Chavez
by calling for an "elimination of the zionist regime". of course that's only cuz we equate that kind of statement with anti-semitism.

btw, if anyone wants to post the story in the link to sn you're welcome to it.

seems to be suffering from "Attention Deficit Disorder"

acts like a darn child.

  @keanu: justify that statement
I do agree Chavez's actions have negative repurcussions; removing his ambassador means he has no channel for diplomacy with Israel now.

He'd better have a good strategem to justify cutting off one of his political tools. I don't see how Chavez has any interest within Israel unless he is trying to reach his old enemy's (America) foreign policy, and it's current support for Israel.

It is almost unknown for any political leader to get involved in international policies for altruistic reasons. (heck it's rare to get surviviing altruistic polititians these days, period.)

@keanu, what has 'ADD' to do with Chavez? I don't see the connection, relevance or the substantiation of that claim.

what you mean like america calling for a democratic transitional governmetn in cuba just because israel is getting all the attention?

Hugo Chavez wanted to make a point, he wanted to tell the israelis that they weren't the only ones affected by world war 2 so how about getting off your self-righteous high horse..

Israel wasn't in the news as much as Chavez until this war with "Hezbollah"

He (chavez) seems to picking at everything or trying to get his name or country labelled by everything the US is involved with while insinuating the message that he is the "good guy" or he the right guy to go up against the evil empire.

As I said before, and I'll reiterate he just riding on the high 'anti american' sentiment.

If you read through the latest news articles and pay close attention you'll realize that everytime the US says or does something Chavez appears and does or says the complete opposite so as to gain support for his UN temporary seat bid.

as for my previous post I don't need to explain it any further its self explanatory.

I hope I haven't offended anyone but thats how I feel about him.

  Agree with Chavez on this one
Maybe if other countries will follow Chavez' lead on this one and send a strong message to Israel..."Lebanon should not be destroyed and Lebanese human lives are not worth any less than Isreali lives."

  Boycotting Israeli Goods might be more effective
Even though Israel's existence is greatly dependent on US aid, a boycott of Israeli goods and services would give a clearer message than any diplomatic pressure. The Israelis don't give a hoot about political pressure when you have the US shielding them.

Many people are starting to think he may have a point. Tell me, what exactly has Chavez said or done that you disagree with so much? Withdrawing his ambassador is a strong sign of disapproval. I wish a few more countries would show strong disapproval when war crimes are being committed.

you must have been looking at my profile. a boycott israeli goods gif has been my picture for at least a week or two.
  by: manilaryce     08/05/2006 04:59 AM
  @ manilaryce
Nice gif, Manilaryce. Must get the word out on Israeli goods barcode ID.

NOTE : Barcode numbers starting with 7 290 = Made in Israel.

BBC reports that about US$1 billion worth of texiles are exported from Israel.

Chavez is vying for power.

All wars are crimes. And shit happens in war. Both sides are guilty of killing civilians. The difference is Israel doesn’t revel (at least not publicly) in the death of civilians.
  by: Emp3r0r     08/05/2006 05:06 AM
You are correct that all wars are crimes but deliberately targeting infastructure, causing ecological disasters and refusing to let cleanup teams in, bombing random trucks just in case they're carrying something you're after, telling civilians that they can either leave their homes or be treated as the enemy, etc. are things worth getting upset about. Not too many world leaders are prepared to do anything. This isn't much but it's something.
  by: ixuzus     08/05/2006 06:31 AM
  @ manila & primos
i agree what Isrel is doing and the US backing it up is horrific but...
Boycotts will not hit the government as much as the locals. he government has US support, the boycott will hit local Israelis in a bad way and for a long term (many companies inluding motorola are thinking of shutting down their Israeli offices due to hizbollah bombings) this will only opres the locals more as they will bemade redundant and as for the government... they have US support so they will not be hit as bad as locals. I don't agree with what Israel is doing, but i don't agree with what you guys are saying.

  @keanu: justify that statement
@keanu: "what has 'ADD' to do with Chavez". Correct me if I am wrong; your comment sounds off-handish, vague and not based on truth.

On your comment about ShortNews Postings: you are correct, chavez has featured far less in the news since Israel's incursion. But your search is tunnel-visioned. If your search of Israel's escapades, there much more posts (if you exclude the non-war articles). So you are wrong.

As much as I'd like to win on points, article searches on proves nothing; statistics are inherently flawed by the bias of the analyst.

What is pertinent is I concede Chavez is using this conflict to vy for [more] power.

Just as Bush, Blair and co vy'd for more power using 9/11. Just as Israel is vying for more power usign two kidnapped soldiers as martyrs. Just as a politician vy's for power with every outrage of a violent crime or injustice.

Keanu: do you agree with my logic?
  by: redstain   08/06/2006 03:12 AM
  No surprise.
That scumbag Chavez supports Jewish terrorists. Its funny how a nobody like him ends up being brought up all the time by his brainwashed supporters.
  by: Drudge   08/06/2006 08:40 AM
  @Drudge: Chavez IS a nobody
Drudge has brought up another crucial point. (It's interesting how even in the depths of troll'ism you can find truth).

He [Chavez] is a nobody from a couple of points of view.
He is no political mastermind. I'm sure he will make a few stupid mistakes that will be quietly ridiculed by his peers as other heads of state.
Venezuela is has no military giant; it cannot walk into another country r*pe it's resources and political system then claim friendly fire/justification from invented insult, attempt to assist an ally (Iraq vc Iran 80's
He is no media giant, he cannot counter-brainwash (i'll use drudge's term), the world to make the ignorant his 'rabble' and convince others through psychological dissonance that maybe he was justified.
[I use the word ignorant as "uninformed" because of lack of information or overwhelmed by Fox/CNN; not as a judgemental statement.]

Quite conversely, the media has made him look like a political babboon; captureing every mistimed photoshot into a grotesque 'gurn'. This is not helped by the fact he's pretty ugly to start of with.

Every moot act/statement is sensationalised. This will at the very least make the undecided suspicious and him an easy target for the nay-sayers.
I know he's no Ghandi, I bet you he will probably be caught as being as corrupt as any other politician. But when he does, they will hang him out to dry like so much democrat scandel-meat before a conservative/republical media outrage.

But he is one of the only ones left who hasn't been caught YET.

Lets face it, even if your are a brown-nosing poodle like Blair, you are still a nobody when compared to 'BushCo'.

In fact everyone who stands against the giant resources wielded by BushCo ends up being a nobody.

  @flukemol: Phosphorous Shells legal loophole
The controversy of phosphorous shells has reappeared again.

Use of phosphorous shells is not illegal because it is used to provide light and confuse perceptions.

When used against targets (hard or soft) it becomes a ILLEGAL chemical weapon.

It's been featured by shortnews before, read it before it gets aged out.

Check out the Chemical Weapons Convention:
