War Crimes to be a Non-Issue for US Lawmakers

The Bush Administration has drafted amendments to the US War Crimes Act which would excuse it and other lawmakers from current, past, or future criminal charges stemming from its treatment of prisoners in the war against terror.

Language in the amendment does not ban “outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment,” though such acts are banned by the Geneva Conventions.

Of particular note, the administration seems to be including amongst these "humiliating acts," the US military's practice of waterboarding, in which a victim is strapped to a board and repeatedly brought close to death by drowning.

This Fidel guy.

"I think what this bill can do is in effect immunize past crimes. That's why it's so dangerous,” said a third lawyer, Eugene Fidell, president of the National Institute of Military Justice.

Uhh...Grammar please?

Information obtained from torture is highly unaccurate, and not all of the people held actually ARE terrorists. It should all be outlawed, doing this is just furthering the Terrorist's causes, and giving them more 'ammunition'.

And to the idiots calling us terrorists, get real !! Last time I checked, when did a US Citizen go out and blow up a plane full of civilians. The last thing I remember was that idiot that got cained some years ago. Guess that is hardcore terrorism to a liberal (only when the US is involved). You may not agree with the war, but calling us terrorists is insane.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Indeed, you are not a Doctor because are effectively an idiot. Too much of Ann Coutler with his stupid conspiration of liberal?

You are not only a narrow-minded person but also a stupid analyst with no historical background. Don't you remember the assassination of Ayande (the president of Chile who was elected, not like your stupid clown), the contra terrorists and your former puppet that helped your regime of terror against the
soviet union during the 80's.

You are not only dishonest but also a proud moron that know nothing.

no, your country illegally invades countries (iraq never provoked the US, the US is the aggressor, yet they plaster defending democracy, freedom and security all over the media, and the masses are just dumb enough to believe it) and bombs the hell out of entire cities (instead of say a building a or two) and says look at all them terrorists we killed for freeDUMB and DUMBmockcracy, meanwhile 35000-250000 dead civilians, mostly women and children.

the US and Israel are the largest terrorist entities in the world... yet only very, very few acknowledge it.

SHAME: this is the last we'll hear of this outrage

We only feel outrage when he hear of it. This type of news has been heard before.

When the US started mining the waters belonging to Panama, they took this up with the International Courts of Justice. The courts agreed that what ever the states had against former employee Noriega, it had no rights to endanger the area in such a manner.

Reagan did what any president would do; three days before the ruling, he stated that the US would no longer recognise the authority of the International Courts. This would be effective immediately and continue for 2 years.

Now Bush's law means is in that spirit, but would continue for ever, but sadly, public opinion will forget about this and move on.

  really funny

they say it's a war against terror and they are the terrorists! they know they'll commit war crimes against innocent people!

So far, US attacked Afghanistan to get Bin Laden, and they failed. They attacked Iraq to free Iraqi people, and free=killed in US dictionary!

It's really wierd, i wonder if they really went to Afghanistan to get Bin Laden in first place, or they went to Iraq to free Iraqi people and find Mass Destruction and chemical weapons! so far it has been 5 years since the start of 'was against terror' and terrorists are still planning and attacking.

God Bless you USA..keep killing innocent people and help Israel with "smart missiles" to hit Lebanese and Palestinian children. THX

  Definition of Terrorism

The reason people seem to think the USA is not a terrorist state is because they think terrorism is just strapping a bomb to yourself and commiting suicide and taking civilians with you. Here's the definition defined by the US Department of Defense as "the unlawful use of -- or threatened use of -- force or violence against individuals or property to coerce or intimidate governments or societies, often to achieve political, religious, or ideological objectives."
That's just one source. Look it up in the dictionary or the U.N. definition or anywhere. So, is the US and other democratic governments terrorists?

  Hahahaha...

DrDuran says: "You may not agree with the war, but calling us terrorists is insane".

OK, let's look at it from the Bush perspective of what makes a terrorist.

Iran funds terrorist organizations. therefore the Bush regime considers it to be a terrorist state.

The US has funded, amongst many others, Saddam Hussien (whom they have effectively declared a terrorist) and the taliban, which is in many respects interchangable with Al-Quaeda.

Calling the US a terrorist state is not only sane, it is also in line with Bush's current policies.

Glad to see you're back ....ha.....ha

let the party begin .......

How's this for terrorism ... Nixon to Kissinger talking about the bombing of Cambodia .....

"Bomb anything that flies on anything that moves"

Oh hold on maybe that's not terrorism but it is the clearest call for genocide in modern history .

by: Hugo Chavez     08/11/2006 02:26 PM
  terrorism ...is what they do

terrorism ...is what they do when the US does it it's something else ...like counter terrorism .... ha ... i'd love to be so stupid that I could actually believe that

@drduran I suggest you listen to the interview on http://www.democracynow.org where the 3 ex-Reagan gov officials clearly say how difficult it was for them to define terrorism because it kept including things the US had also done.

In Nicaragua the US government used awax planes to locate Sandinista troops on the ground . Gave their coordinated to the contras ....not so the contras could find them and kill them but to avoid them and attack what the US called "soft targets" ie schools, undefended villages, churches, factories etc where they raped murdered and then stuffed the bodies with coffee (just to top it off) all trained , equipped and supplied by Washington .

If you're such a super patriot I suppose you're also a devout Christian ...if so than pull out your bible because there is a very clear definition of hypocrite given in the gospels "one who applied standards to others and not to themselves"

  lmao.

I can't believe the stupidity I just heard pouring out of peoples' mouths.

It's almost like they forgot the KKK ever existed. Were they not terrorists? How's Robert C Byrd, a former klansman, doing these days?

bush, has clearly stated in the past "if your not with us, your against us", this is the thought process of terrorists and dictators.

the is no discernable difference between what the US government does and what terrorists do, save for who's doing the killing and who's getting killed.

no I'm sorry it was for the "unlawful use of force" (international terrorism in lay language) in Nicaragua .

The US was ordered to stop the bombing there and ordered to pay reparations to Nicaragua . In fact what the US did was increase it’s attacks the following week , never pay a penny and veto a UN resolution calling on all members to abide by international law.
