Ford will Eliminate Gas Caps on its Cars

Ford Motor Co. has developed a gas cap free system that will be implimented on all of it cars. It will be easier on the environment and a lot easier to use with no more lost gas caps. The 2008 Lincoln MKS sedan will be the first to come gas cap free.

"It eliminates the inconvenience of forgetting to put your gas cap back on after refueling. It's also better for the environment because no gas fumes escape. It's the direct result of listening to our customers," said Mark Fields with Ford.

GM and Chrysler will also be introducing a yellow gas cap to indicate that the vehicle sporting one is capable of running on gasoline, E85 or a mixture of both.

"It's also better for the environment because no gas fumes escape"

  when i first glanced.
i thought it said ford will eliminate gas on its cars... i was like wtf. and clicked and was disappointed to find that crap... who needs it anyways, gas caps have been around since the first cars, everyone is used to it

<deleted> your <deleted> and <deleted> with three of them tied together with <deleted> and another thing <deleted> where to put your <deleted> gas cap.

I am certain that you've done similar stupid things like losing a gas cap. Such as posting inflammatory comments on international news websites.

will this affect people with syphons trying to get a few free gallons of gas with a piece of chopped off garden hose? Not only did I have to buy more gas, but also a new hose :( Should have gotten a gascap that can only be opened from a switch inside the car.

  yellow caps
so people are driving around these cars, not knowing they can use e85? so a glance at the cap while they are refueling will remind them that next time, i can get some e85!

About time. These things are obsolete

What an advancement.

both my cars (one 1988, the other 2003) have this awesome invention. It's hard to describe, but its piece of plastic (space age technology i am sure) that connects the gas cap to the car even after you unscrew it. So you can't lose the cap. Its crazy.

If this is such a problem
We should all follow the system they have in Oregon and New Jersey and have "trained proffesionals" pump your gas for you. My guess is they are trained not to forget to put the gas cap back.

If I had a dollar for every full service gas station that I have seen in Texas over the last 10 years...I might be able to buy 3 gallons of gasoline...and pump it myself.

Though, when I was in Massachusetts, I came across a city that was entirely full service...apparently they had a city ordinance that forbid people from pumping their own gas.

Keeps people employed, I guess.

P.S. All my car have that little plastic thingie...when I buy a car, if it doesn't have one, I toss out the OEM one, and purchase one with a plastic thingie.

Oh my god.

This is why GM and Ford are falling behind. They actually devote workforce to develope a gas cap free car? GOOD JOB!

While they are busy with that, BMW continues to develop and test hydrogen engines, Toyota and Honda researches smaller, safer, more gas efficient cars.

And what does GM and Ford do? RELEASES GAS CAP FREE CARS! Genius!

  Now if Ford
eliminated the gas tank they would be making real progress and maybe their stocks wouldn’t be classified as junk.

thats a great alternative to bio dual fuel technology, i predict thousands of sales for this new lazy persons invention
  by: JocKstEelUk   08/14/2006 02:32 PM
my cars, its gas cap is tied to the car.. so wtf?
  by: maccheese   08/14/2006 11:02 PM
  i will say that...
i have never, ever forgotten to put my gas cap back on.

and also that ford is really stupid if it's bothering to make gas-cap-less cars instead of something that people might actually want, like an affordable hybrid vehicle. silly ford.

It's a good thing that darned inconvenient gas cap is gone, because you keep needing to unscrew the thing over and over as you refill their remarkably inefficient cars.

  Probably a spring loaded
ball valve like NASCAR has been using for years.
by: Old Man   08/15/2006 04:54 PM
  I actualy have forgotten
Once or twice, probably twice, however I have a motor bike and drive about 45miles a day, so I have to fill up every other day, easy to forget.

  This is not new?
My Renault Scenic has this. Bought it years ago.
