Video Games For The Elderly

68-year-old University of Texas professor Mihai Nadin is head researcher of Seneludens, a $13 million project to design games aimed at the aging. The goal is to develop therapeutic behavioral environments. Nadin says it is a social responsibility.

"Games will entice the aging to remain fit and mentally active, to connect with others," he said at the recent Games for Health Conference. Researchers have been collecting human sensory data for two years to aid in a new genre of games.

"Baby boomers are not interested in shooting things," said Jeffrey Toth, a psychology professor who has released a game called "Art Dealer" in which players learn how to spot fakes, and how to buy and sell.

But this is a great article. I am so relieved to hear that the seniors are not interested in "shooting people" although in the news lately it seems more and more of them are carrying guns. Two elderly women recently beatoff their ass ail ants PROPERLY.

  I know

a good number of age 60+ World of Warcraft players. They might not like shooting things, but they sure don't mind going toe-to-toe with elite giants =P

Make the games for the Wii

The Nintendo Wii is designed to be used by everyone including elderly. They should make the games targeted for the elderly for the Wii, it's a perfect match.

  Good one

Maybe they can design a game that takes advantage of the controller's motion tracking features, some sort of tai-chi training program.
