Bumbling Dentist Treats Five Year Old, Kills Her

An Illinois Doctor has had his license to practice revoked, and is facing legal sanctions after what appears to be a gross incidence of negligence. 40-year-old Hicham Riba is believed to be responsible for killing a 5-year-old patient in his office.

The girl, who was there to get some teeth filled and some cap work, sat down in the dentist chair. The doctor immediately gave the tiny child two injections of valium within 5 minutes, an oral dose of valium, lidocaine, and several other substances.

Once this was done, the dentist put a mask on her face and administered a round of nitrous oxide. Even worse, the doctor failed to monitor any of the child's life stats during the bizarre procedure. She immediately entered a coma, and later died.

  A fathers point of view:

This was a horrible event that no one should ever have to go through. When I first heard the news break, it brought back nightmares,
First of all...dentists, doctors, and anesthesiologists should be held to a higher degree of responsibility because of the knowledge they posses since they are dealing with human life. Regrettably they usually are not. Well, that is, until it becomes a highly publicized.
My daughter was admitted into the hospital in a rural town to have routine dental surgery. I saw my daughter being wheeled out in a little red wagon and the next time I saw her he was having convulsions in icu. I never heard her voice, looked into her beautiful eyes, or got enjoy the triumphs and pains of her growing up again.
She was not ventilated properly and her brain went without oxygen for 20 minutes. When the oxygen indicator started beeping they thought the equipment was malfunctioning.
I hope the laws allow this son-of-a-b**ch to hang until he rots.

I'm so sorry. I can't even begin to imagine...
You're right, I mean, how can people make these kind of mistakes when the stakes are so high?

Just want to add a word of "comfort" to an unimaginable tragedy.

Your daughter is very much alive and well.. YOU will be re-united with her much sooner than you imagine..cheer up!!

Jesus is REALLY coming soon!!

it's a PROMISE ! that HE CAN'T POSSIBLY LIE ABOUT!

Jesus said: in John chapter 14..

Let NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED Ye believe in God, believe also in ME.
In my FATHER'S HOUSE.. are many mansions. if it were not so, I would not say it was so. I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR "YOU" !!!
.. and when I am done, I will come get you, so that where I am, you may be also.

STOP!!!!!

WT? WHAT THE?? " when I am done"???

It took God. only 6 24 hour days to ereate the entire universe w/all the planets and all the elements of this earth and all that has life in it. just six days...

Jesus says HE has been PREPARING this "new" place for over 2,000 years now !!!

EYE HAS NOT SEEN, NEITHER CAN IT ENTER THE MIND.."what God has PREPARED.. for them that Love HIM...

something SPECTACULAR.. is ABOUT TO HAPPEN...now smile!! wait and watch!!

it's an archaic but accepted practice for General

Local anasthaesia is common for during dental work.

But treating young children is difficult. Even with anasthetic, the streching of the mouth, gag reflexes from saliva, noises, injections can be quite an unpleasent experience. I can understand why the dentist applied the NO2.

The child was 5, a *very* young age to require dental work, I am surprised parents didn't elect to let the teeth fall out if it was still milk teeth. And if it was not milk teeth, how the heck did he/she get cavities so young?

His license is gone, probably in his 30-50s, the career and studies he's invested in it is like him - redundant. The childs not coming back. Time to let go.

Condolences.

  What???

That guy has no excuse, one valium would have been MORE than enough for a 5 y ear old, its enough to knock ME out and I'm 20.

  @The_One

Yea, what that dentist gave a 5 year old girl was WAY to much, there isnt even the excuse of saying "I was really busy with more than one patient that i didnt realize" Two shots off the bat alone was to much, than 2 pills, than N02? Shes 5 years old for crying out loud. Theres no excuse.

  by: inpherno3   10/07/2006 08:54 PM
  Was the girl extremely nervous?

Was she riddled with anxiety and hates going to the dentist like me? Was she freaking out so bad that she wouldn't be still enough for him to work on her teeth? Even if that was the case, valium seems a bit extreme to me. If anything he should have started with the Nitrous, then the lidocaine, it probably would have been enough. The rest was overkill (pun intended).
