One Connecticut man has already been shot while standing in line for a PS3 during a robbery {SN Reported}; nation-wide crimes have have escalated related to the release of the game-console. In California, injuries led to arrests after a PS3 stampede.
Indiana- a man was stabbed when he tried to rob customers that had been in line for 36 hours. Connecticut- a man in line was shot. 30 miles away, another Playstation 3 customer was beaten by '5 men' and robbed; one thief was arrested after being kicked out of a car.
Pennsylvania- a teen was robbed at gunpoint. Kentucky- a drive by BB shooting at a Best Buy. Virginia- unruly suburbanites are subdued by talcum powder during a near-riot at a Target; in Mclean, the police fired pepper pellets at Tysons Corner Center mall.
Guess sony are to blame, for charging stupid over the top price for the console. Hundreds of nerds standing inline with $500+ cash on them is an easy picking for muggers.
Due to supply shortages and limited release quantities, the xbox 360 and not the ps3 have become hot items on ebay and even the black market, hence theft can potentially pay off. I believe there were people willing to pay 3-5000 on ebay for an xbox 360 before supplies could be resumed.
Drop console prices? Sony is already LOSING money on selling the PS3. They're gonna rely on the games they sell to even try and turn a profit on this one for awhile.
Consoles will only get more expensive. The next gen consoles after these PS:IV, Xbox 720 will most likely cost over $1000 and the next Nintendo CrappyName will probably top off the landfills that are almost full.
For the price of the PS3 you can buy a Top-of-the-line Video card for your machine. Or a midrange pair of Cross-fire video cards.. Or even a decent cheap barebones system.
As for the Ebay prices.. 2K + for a console system..you can buy a Top end Intel Proc, Mobo, lots of top end ram, and top end video card(s). As for the Morons pumping the prices up to max end on ebay.. If they don't pay.. find them and sue them for breach of contract. (Your bid is a contract you know. Saw a Ps3 for like 9 mil.. Yeah I know it was just run up to the point being absurd.. but any lawyer would die to get 30% of the price, for a simple breach of contact case.)
That as of now the PS3 costs more to make than it costs for you to buy... Apparently they plan on making the money backfrom games/peripherals, it's hard to find a reliable source to prove it though
yes it cost about $800+ and change to make the system and they will make money back on accessories, mainly Games, and those complaining about the price, its the same PRICE as the xbox 360 when u add the HD-dvd addon for $200, but the PS3 comes with the Blu-ray player default.so again those that are talkin bs are jus fanboi's, seriously competition makes companys better, so get off your high horses.
does ferrari or any other high priced item provide security around the clock, no, neither should sony, if anyone the STORES should provide security while your shopping at their place of business.another hilarious thing is some Ebay ppl tryin to turn huge profits have been taken for a ride, couple of the auctions have been bid up to extreme amounts, then to find out, person backs out on bid or doesnt really exist, LOL capitalist!!!and breach of contract means nothing when ur dealing with the internet if a person is found they could blame a hacker or child of family and get off, those sorts of cases never see the light of day.also u can start to build a decent pc for $600, but thats 1 nvidia 8800gtx, u still need CPU, PSU, MEMORY, CASE, RAM, MONITOR, Mobo, Hard-drive, Optical drive, and u wont have some of the exclusive titles for the console(s).Im a part-time systems builder and own both x360, PS3, but my PC gets more use cause of BF2, CS:s and DOD:s etc...mouse+kb FTW!!!
They should have a raffle. It's going to piss me off if no stores are sued for these incidents. Plus raffles have a higher chance of preventing resellers from getting the systems.(as they are the ones willing to wait in line for a week knowing they can make a grand.)
The stores should have had extra security that night , the Target where I live has an off duty police officer parked in front all day and they work hand and hand with the loss prevention dept at Target, the same crap happened last year, did they think it wasn't going to happen this year?
Seems like a lot of this problem is a result of the companies always intentionally releasing their hotly anticipated items right before Christmas. If they were to release it in say Jan. Feb. or Mar, more likely it would be more of the hardcore gamers and fewer ebay capitalist that would still camp out to get them. The ebay capitalist are helping to create this situation in a sense by feeding into the notion of limited supply and high demand (high demand because Christmas is less than 8 weeks away) If the release were much earlier in the year, parents wouldn't feel pressured to buy at that time on inflated ebay prices and could wait till birthday or holiday time of the year to get it for their kids when supplies are fine. The companies are not going to lose out on sales as parents will still be buying the consoles come holiday time. You don't see any mad rush for XB360 at this time because you can get your kid one if you want to. The supply is there. It's been out for a year so all the hardcore fans already have theirs. I don't excuse the behavior of criminals stealing and robbing people of money or their PS3 (We had a number of incidents here at a bunch of stores in Oregon). Unfortunately, there will always be a layer of criminal behavior in society. The companies are doing a diservice to society by knowingly creating a situation that is going to feed into this problem. And yes, this is nothing new. It's been going on for as long if not longer than when Cabbage Patch Dolls were put out. But mark my words, this would be far less of a societal problem for everyone except those wanted to make bank on ebay if the companies changed their release dates to earlier in the year.
