26-year-old Detroit woman Jacqueline Ellen Vuich has been sentenced by a Macomb County circuit judge to eight years in prison for giving heroin injections to her 12-year-old nephew, and giving both him and a 15-year-old niece cocaine and heroin.
She plead guilty to having a person under 16 in a home with prostitution, first and second-degree child abuse, delivery of narcotics to a minor and maintaining a drug house. Vuich's attorney said her poor upbringing played a factor in her actions.
The nephew survived a heroin overdose January 24th. Ellen's mother, 47-year-old Jan Ruby Catton was hit with abuse and drug charges and received two years probation, losing custody of eight grandchildren. "I'm sorry. I tried to help," she said.
