Adolf Hitler's Auto Union to be Auctioned

A 1939 Auto Union D-Type specially created by Ferdinand Porsche at the request of Hitler will be auctioned by Christie's in Paris early next year. The car is one of only two D-Types known to exist.

Hitler planned to use the car to flaunt the technological prowess of the Third Reich. The vehicle generates 485 horse-power and has a top speed of just under 300km/h. (186mph)

Almost no D-Types survived World War II but this one was captured by the Russians who disassembled it to study the tech. It was rediscovered during the 1990s and is expected to eclipse the previous record price for a car which stands at £5.5 million.

  It's not exactly Hitler's car
I understand it was ordered by Hitler, but hardly can be considered his car.

  Now how many
Hitler wannabees are going to be racing after this car. The HP is really impressive though!

headline, this is not a Porsche although designed br Dr. Porsche, as was the VW Beetle. This was part of the Auto Union racing team, heavily subsidised by the German government, as was Mercedes Benz at the time, to enable tham to rule the racing world.

The rarity of the car itself is what is going to bring the massive money rather than the fact "Hitler ordered it". That fact mearly adds to the price such a car would bring. As the article said it is one of two known to exist so it is pretty much a once in a life time purchase for a car collector.
