20 Months Jail for Loud Music

59-year-old Miyoko Kawahara has had her sentence increased from 12 to 20 months jail by the Osaka High Court. Kawahara was charged after she blasted her neighbour with non-stop dance music from November 2002 until April 2005 when she was arrested.

Her neighbour was diagnosed with insomnia and headaches which doctors attributed to the noise. Japanese law allows sentences of up to 10 years jail for inflicting injury on another person.

According to police the neighbours had a number of other disputes. In increasing the sentence the court noted that Kawahara "still maintains a hostile attitude toward the victim and it is highly likely she will commit the crime again."

I once had a very noisy neighbor.

She would put on a record and play the same song over and over, day and night, for several days in succession.
Impossible to sleep. So I finally went to the basement, located the fuse box and removed the main bus fuses for that apartment. No one has spares for these babies. After a night of silence and a good rest, I spoke with her husband about her habits, and promised him that if I ever heard that noise again I would leave them without power until he took control of her record player. That worked. Saved me from having to call the police several times per night.
Some people would best serve in life as fertilizer.

  Well

that puts a stop to our idea about my neighbours on both sides of my place, sighs..... now I will have to come up with another idea lest Oz has the same idea in it's laws. I know we have noise pollution laws but inflicting injury well I don't know...
