Taxi Driver Receives Ticket for 420mph... Apparently

UK Taxi Driver Tom Matthews has set a new speed record for a gasoline powered vehicle in his 12-year-old Vauxhall Cavalier. A phenomenal feat, he beat the previous record set in 2004 by Peter O’Flynn (Sales Manager) of 406mph.

He was recorded traveling at a staggering 420mph in a 30mph Zone in Newport, Gwent. Mr Matthews was awarded the standard £60 fine and 3 Points on his licence for his achievement. Mr Matthews speculates there must have been a printing error on the ticket.

An official announcement from the Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership indicates there may have been "an employee processing error" and have apologised for the mistake.

  no big deal

my ford taurus would have blown by him at around 600 mph. Hell my lawn mower tops out at about 250 mph.

Will it stand up in the Gunniess Book?

I think not, though would probably be cool to only have to pay £60 and get 3 points to get such an achievement.

RoBBoB the UK uses MPH and I think we only use metric on weights and measures because we have to because of Europe. I remember at school getting imperial and metric but now I think its just metric. I always ask for things like meat and milk in lbs and pints.

  Fixed Typo; Hi SpaceChimp

I edited the word to gasoline because the first part of the sentence was a near copy/paste job from the source. To avoid blocking it for that reason, I made the adjustment.

Great article though, thank you for the submission.
