Two Children Die Mimicking Saddam's Execution

Two children, a ten-year-old from Houston, Texas and a nine-year-old from Pakistan have both died imitating the execution of Saddam Hussein which they saw on television. Both deaths appear to be accidental.

Mubashar Ali, from Pakistan, tied a rope to his neck and a ceiling fan with the help of his sister while Sergio Pelico, from Texas, tied a slip knot around his neck while on the top bunk.

Psychologist Edward Bischof said, "Our gut reaction is that he was experimenting... I would think maybe this kid is trying something that he thinks fun to act out without having the emotional and psychological maturity to think the thing through..."

  why...

Why couldn't this have been prevented by anyone? It is sad that they wanted to mock someone that I would assume they hate.

  What is worse

is that they saw the execution in the first place. A boob on TV and people get sued for millions, careers ruined and talk of criminal action. Yet the news stations can show a human being executed prime time and no one bats an eye lid.

Great times we live in when people glorify death and suffering, but freak out at our own bodies being used in a pleasurable way.

Personally I am for more nakedness on TV and less death and graphic violence in prime time. Kids need to learn that the human body is not disgusting and something to be ashamed of and that size 0-4 models are not the ideal woman etc a lot more than they need to witness people being executed and see actual dead bodies on the news.

  Some points...

Are these kids up for Darwin awards? If not they should be!
If your tv/computer/whatever is monitoring your kids you have problem.
If you don’t want your kid to see such things then Vchip or pay attention to your kids and stupid kids won’t do stupid stuff like this.
I am completely against sanitizing the world for people who obviously don’t want to be parents...

  This is what happens

when they abolish public hangings you can take your kids to on a Sunday, they just dont get educated in these matters now.

Emp I gotta disagree (sorta, I think) because kids die like this a lot and wouldnt be surprised if Saddam hadn't anything to do with this. Theres a good chance either kid was just playing around and these accidents happenned. That said the pretrial was big news and footage repeated over and over. Theres just some content you cant hide kids from, people like to think you can protect kids 100% of the time, people think they do but lets face kids are like cruise missiles. You can only program (educate) them and fire them off into life, sometimes they hit their target, sometimes they blow up in mid air and sometimes theres civilian and friendly casualties.

  Where were the parents?

I mean honestly..First of all, why were they allowed to watch even clips of the video?

They should have never seen it.

  @Emp3r0r

I agree about using real parenting and not letting TV raise kids. But here in Australia they put it on the news at 5pm in the afternoon. At that time your not expecting to witness executions. There is late night news for a reason (10pm here) Show that type of stuff then, instead of grabbing at ratings like they do with the most sensationalist and damaging content they can find.

  by: ssxxxssssss   01/05/2007 04:44 AM
Who says they were doing it with Saddam in mind?

Ever since I was a kid watching cowboy movies I've seen people hung.

In all my days of pretending I'm a cowboy I've never thought of mimicking a hanging.

  Watching ERTWorld Satellite Greek News

My initial shock of seeing this thing played over and over again on every news broacast the whole day positively made me sick in the end I did not watch it the whole day and next day to avoid the scene again. I cannot understand why they must show the whole sorry thing repeatedly. I felt sorry when Iheard about those two children on the news program and like it or not my first thought was the bastard is still taking lives even dead. I immediately chastised myself and then let it go until I saw this story and all those thoughts welled up in me again. How depressing.

  Watch out TV...

Jack Thompson is coming for you! And it does appear everything is bigger in Texas, especially the suicide rate of 10 year olds. But seriously, we can now make the clear connection that President Bush kills children.

  by: qhobbes   01/05/2007 07:54 AM
they are not retards nor up for a darwin award

they are simply kids who's parents hould have kept a closer eye on.
i don't asum when you guys were 9/10 you knew all that's good/ bad and the rules of physics and gravity? My 8 year old ousin thinks he is strong enough that if he is walking with me at night and we get attacked he can defend me an "kick the bad man's 4ss". Kids are kids, they grow up but rely alot on adults at the early stages.

  by: DarkAngelJG     01/05/2007 02:18 PM
  lol dark

You don’t need physics to know some stuff; just not a good idea.

When I was really little I watched Airwolf I don’t recall jumping off the roof in a cardboard helicopter. :)

it is somehow all bush's fault... he he

  I still don't agree

With some of the rude comments. They were haven't even started puberty. They don't have a great sense of reasoning. Not many children at that age do, even if you did emp! :)

This time 5th place goes to NicPre and 6th place to Emp-error for your 3rd comment.

Lets head back to the news 'I would think maybe this kid is trying something that he thinks fun to act out without having the emotional and psychological maturity to think the thing through..."

Insensitive Bastards. (oops I said it. NicPre)

This is from a father of 6, 3 girls and 3 boys. Oldest 21 going to 12. I love all her decissions, some good and some not so. But I am still here to guide her and teach her lessons that will help her guide, her own children.

  Natural Selection

Darwin Awards for the both of them, condolences to the parents.

Sorry but I see today's youth becoming quite stupid and instead of parents doing something to combat it, they let them sit in front of the boob tube and in front of their video games day in and out.... they need to figure out the balance in life and if they suspect their kids is dumb enough to hang themself or mimick stuff on Tv..well....

  by: Jediman3     01/05/2007 05:45 PM
  Um no

Children have a right to knowledge as much as anyone. I discovered porn when I was 10, I liked it, but it went from there. I didnt become a sex fiend or anything like that. I also became involved in politics at a fairly young age because I was told everyone could participate in politics, so I helped in the napster court battle by writing congressman.

It is how children perceive that information. Just because two kids did the gene pool a favor does not mean we should create new laws and promote the usage of V-Chips, otherwise we are further damning our societys growth. Whatever happened to the days when children at 10 became workers helping the family farm?

If children younger than 10 can help operate a farm, and help feed their family, then they have the right to learn, watch executions, and see what the real world is like before it slaps them so hard they wont know what hit them.

(I also dont believe in censorship)

  Yea Emp3r0r cruise missiles :)

I dunno but at least you never done what the last lot done and took it 100% serious when I compared a war to an RTS game lol.

Couldnt think of anything at the time and its a product of a wasted mind.

  by: AccessG     01/05/2007 11:33 PM
  @DesertRebel

I'm 100% against censoship as well..it's up to the individual to deal with life...i'm stating when parents SEE that their kid has, ahem, "issues", instead of ignoring it and sitting them in front of the tv, or laughing it off, they need to do something about it. My beef isn't with the media its bad parenting in general. Its like I always say, it aint the media causing people to shoot other people, those people are nuckin futs to begin with.

  by: Jediman3     01/06/2007 01:38 AM

Airwolf rocked!

  by: shaohu     01/06/2007 06:34 AM
Maybe the reason the suicide rate

is so low in Florida is because no one gets killed jumping out of basement windows.
A friend of mine shot himself with a rubber band gun.

by: White Albino   01/06/2007 11:44 AM
sorry, but i still believe they are kids and need

guidance.
I watched x-men, spiderman etc.. when i was a kid, but my parents always made sure i don't confuse real life with fantasy. Some 4 and 5 year olds have imaginary friends, does that make them "darwin award candidates"? no. Put yourself in the other person's place before judging them, no one knows what was going on in their mind or if they knew it would harm them or not. They are kids, human kids reply on their parents more than any other mammal/animal. Unfortunatly some kids are smarter than others but that doesn't mean the less smart children should all die, what have you left to the nazis?
i am against censorship to an extend but sometimes it can be good. As a kid i watched a horror movie rated 18 (i was 9) and ever since i can't stay or even sleep in a dark room alone (i am 22 now!)! human psychology and how we learn is a complicated thing, it's nt black and white, you are either smart enough to live or stupid enough to die and clean the gene pool.

  by: DarkAngelJG     01/06/2007 12:55 PM
  Is it not plausable...

That these children simply committed sucicide? It does happen throughout the world, and suddenly two kids hang themselves (one of the most common suicide methods) and it *has* to be linked to Saddam's murder.

Just seems like the media making yet another stir.

Also, parents cannot be constantly with their children... It mentioned that the Texan kid was in his bedroom when he did it... You cannot monitor a child 24 hours a day.

No one said kids don’t need guidance.

The Darwin awards are done in jest and I don’t think anyone said we should exercise social Darwinism/Nazi death camps I think you’re reading too much into it.

lol a horror movie??? Got you beat! The Disney’s boogie man was after me! Till I was 10-12 I had a night light ghosts are icky!!! I think all censorship should be left to the individual/parent I point you to guys like Bush, Mrs. Gore and Newt Gingrich as the best reason for why the state shouldn’t do such things.

  I think...therefore I think

someone poured chlorine in their gene pool.

by: White Albino   01/06/2007 11:57 PM
  What the hell

theres a difference between censorship and showing stuff on TV that really in all honesty isn't very healthy/beneficial to anyone.

We know saddam was killed due to freedom of the press, they do not however have to show someone being hung on a loop till the entire populace of the developed world becomes apathetic towards murders.

Also give me a break, children don't think things out properly, you have no idea what was going through their heads at the time. They could have been thinking something along the lines of "oh i'll just get out of it after a while" then realise then can't and hence die. Some people on here are rediculously harsh towards situations like this when in reality they would receive a good slap from half the people on SN if they met them in real life.
