Zachary Midgette, a student from Cary High School, has been arrested after he allegedly put hydrochloric acid and zinc chloride in a science teacher's water bottle. Either substance is potentially fatal.
The seventeen-year-old has been charged with assault on a government official, a misdemeanor which has a maximum sentence of 150 days in prison. Other students at the school are reportedly very upset and angry over the incident.
An investigation by the school is also underway with Midgette likely to be either suspended for a long period, expelled, or moved to another school. The teacher has returned to her classroom.
