Americans Spend More Time With PC Than Spouse

A recent survey conducted by Kelton Research discovered what many spouses have known for years. A startling 65% of people asked to participate spent more time with their household PC than with their own spouse.

The survey also found that 52% of those same people said their "most recent experience with a computer problem provoked emotions such as anger, sadness or alienation."

Among other things noted in the findings were that a staggering 84% of those surveyed said that they were "more dependent on their home computer now than they were just three years ago."

I have 3 computers in my house. My own (desktop), my dads laptop, and also my moms desktop. It's both wired, and wireless connection (encrypted, of course ;) ).

By the way, I built both computers except the laptop. :D

Yup, im a computer hardware buff, I can make one with my eyes closed, haha. Other ("normal") people call me "geek" lol.

At least with a computer, I can CHOOSE what I want to see/do/play, instead of having to be "spoon fed" by TV.

Sure is a good time killer ;)

Good article

  True Geeks...

Don't own just one. They own at least 3. And Gamers up to 4. I have 1 Gaming rig, 1 Number crunching File seving rig, 1 offling storage rig (Ancient Laptop with really Huge Hard Drive), and 1 test bed machine.

Wife agree I spend too much time on them.. But it's this or be spoon fed TV, or listening to the Step-Kids argue, or listen to my wife's recount of who did what to whom and how she fixed it. (You fixed it..that's all I need to know.)

  I own three computers

Two PC's and a laptop, all on a wireless network.
Probably have enough parts lying around to build one more.

Say's while fiddling with random computer part...

My computer doesn't talk back to me like most women!!! =) LOL Just kidding. Honestly I am!!

I have 4 PC's 2 gaming and 2 Misc. Me and my wife are both into PC's so we actually spend more time together then most couples. But I can see how computers can tear relationships apart.

  TV...

And 20 years ago they probably said the same thing about television.

The wife and I each have our own PC and we spend a bit of time on them, but we still have a good relationship. We just watch less TV now...hardly any at all for that matter.

Not bad aside from the Intel and Radeon :/

I have an Area-51® 7500 Technology Leader but with an AMD instead of the stock C2D like you have. Oh and I ordered mine the day before Dell bought them out - take that Dell!

  2 Laptops

I've got an old (like 2 years) Sony Vaio that I gave to my wife and my WidowPC Sting 917X2. It's got an FX-60, 256mb Nvidia GeForce Go 7800GTX and 2 gigs of ram. I spent almost all the money I saved in Iraq on it. It's about a year old.

Not bad aside from my intel?

My E6600 trades punches with the FX-60, and usually beats it in Media encoding, and games.

Plus I can easily O/C it by about 600Mhz (or more depending on cooler), but right now my stock cooler is weak, planning on getting a much better cooler soon. I did have my CPU at 2.8Ghz, but my stock cooler wasn't keeping my CPU cool enough, so I keep it stock.

As for my Radeon X1900GT 256MB, i'm waiting for the R600.

My 520Watt PSU is almost at it's breaking point, so when I upgrade to R600, I will also get a new 650+Watt PSU with greater than 32amps on the rails.

@ Erasedgod, very nice comp you got. :)

  7

7 under my care.

2 desktops for me (1 work, 1 ..more work.)
1 Mac mini... my petite multimedia toy
1 laptop... my brother's toy.
1 desktop... my mother's toy (imagine the article's topic in reverse order. My dad doesnt even know how to handle a mouse... while my mother plays online games every night.).
1 spare desktop, just in case.
1 spare laptop (old one).
... probably one or two more full PCs in parts, not put together.

Nukes could be descending in my horizon, I'de be yeling "WIFE !! In the basement NOW !! ..... all I would hear back would be "WAIT !! I have to save this file first !!!" lmao

  In my home

I only have one computer. I have the most technologically advanced system ever made... 386 processor, 3MB + RAM, 14MB Hard disk drive space, 5.25 floppy (beat that!) DOS 3.3 and just recently added windows 3.1!

  *yeah*

You forgot to mention the new math co-processor we just put in it.

  by: robbob     01/24/2007 02:44 PM
  Wow melissamiranda

That blows my 8088 cluster with dual 8” floppys and my Commodore 64 backup server with the 300 BAUD modem right out of the water. I’ve got every 16 pin 120ns sims I own plugged into the Mobo’s and I couldn’t touch your rig. Wow, a hard drive, awesome. Ahhh, the dark ages, seems like just 20 years ago or so. Now I’m just going to sit here punching chads out of my punch cards all dejected and feeling sorry for myself. <sniff sniff>

  Our take

In our house, we have three PC's and one laptop that needs to be broken into, as well as three older 'backup' pc's in the garage..lol The whole house is wired for ethernet and I setup wi-fi so I can type away with the deer in the warmer months..

I don't feel like a geek tho..lol
