Mother's Day Banned at Welsh School

Helen Starkey, the headteacher at Johnstown Primary in Wales, has announced that students will be banned from making Mother's Day cards this year out of respect for the 5% of the students at the school who are living without mothers.

Mrs Starkey said: "They [the five per cent] include children who have been bereaved, children whose parents are separated and are not domiciled with their mothers, and children who have been removed from parental care by statutory bodies."

  That's How Ya Do It

Teach kids that if something hurts you personally, it should be BANNED FOR EVERYONE ELSE !!!!

No worry about learning how to deal with grief and loss, just ban the F out of everyone elses lofe.

I tell ya, I am waiting for "Breathing in public banned".

Don't get me wrong, I am by far NOT insensitive, I have both lost a son to death and my daughter stolen ( disappeared by her mother (still), but I don't let my wife's grand-daughter NOT have a birthday becasue of this!!

In this case, I'd look at helping those 5% ...

.. rather than punishing the other 95%.

It's unfortunate that the children are bereaved. Maybe we can hook up their mom and dads with singles nights - I mean carefully scheduled PTA meetings?
:D

  Holidays?

Mother's Day isn't a real holiday just like valentines day and Saint Patricks day. You don't get off from work/school. I personally think this a right move. Their time should be spent learning not writing Mother's Day cards.

She's pretty stupid.

Having any of these days off from school was never interjected into the story. This has nothing to do with days off.

It also seems that you are assuming that these cards would be made in a typical class setting of math or spelling. Did you not have art class / hour in school? Making cards is a great way to promote imagination.

Learning isn't just about memorizing books, it's about advancment of a childs mind in all facets.

What I was trying to say was why is this even an issue? Holidays shouldn't be celebrated in school, learned about but not celebrated. There are many other ways to stimulate imagination in Art class than by making cards.

  This PC stuff ..

is goint wayyyy to far! Next, should they "ban" fathers day for those kids who don't have dads? Or grandparents day? Let's just ban everything and live for approval of the PC lords.
All hail those who will make decisions for all of us :^P

Wrong my friend, Mothers day IS a REAL holiday unlike all these other fakers. It used to be called "Mothering Sunday"

read about it here -http://en.wikipedia.org/...

Fake holidays include

Fathers Day
Grandparents Day
Bosses Day
etc etc

these have been created just to sell cards... mothering sunday was the original

  This buzzword stuff...

...is goint wayyyy to far! Next, shall we talk about "Liberals" and how they're somehow behind this? Or "Leftists"? Let's just chalk up anything we disagree with to a maligned group or phantom movement.
All hail those who will give us generalizations to spare us from real thought! ;)

Probably. I'm still learning to stop thinking and just make sweeping statements about vaguely-defined groups of people.

i agree, we made them in art class, and the kids without mums made them for their grandmothers, and the kids with mum that were dead made them for their mothers to honour them.
