Semen: Nature's Anti-Depressant

According to one researcher, semen has anti-depressant properties. "Semen appears to act as an antidepressant in women," said psychologist Gordon Gallup, PhD. "In our studies, women who have unprotected sex have lower levels of depression."

The doctor added that there was no difference in depression scores between women having heterosexual sex with condoms, lesbian sex, or not having sex at all.

"Women [who have sex] without condoms are also more likely to fall victim to the rebound effect following the breakup of their relationship," said Gallup, suggesting that there is a withdrawal effect when semen exposure stops.

What about some of the women who don't use oral contraceptives?

  by: redstain   03/04/2007 05:18 PM
  seminal fluid

it contains dopamine, both estrogen and testosterone, etc. it's a hormone cocktail that likely evolved to help strengthen relationships, or at least encourage sex. what's really needed is a contraceptive that focuses on the sperm and leaves everything else alone.

Signing Valk up as judge. The BEST pick-up line. PRIZE.. I'll pony up a (still in the store packaging) copy of Stephen King's "Storm of the Century". (Yes I meant to do that.)

Rules simple. Keep it clean.. if you got to use **** for a word. It's disqualified.
And just to start things off..

"Gee, you look a little depressed."

"We women will never hear the end of this."

I've heard them all - it's good for the skin, boosts the immune system, enhances your memory, and so forth. Bottom line, guys: semen could give you the power of flight, and we'll still take it if/when we feel like it.

  gah,

Women that tend to have unprotected sex, and aren't monogamous, are often depressed. This study just confuses the issue.

Monogamous women that have unprotected sex are probably happier because they have peace of mind and a more stable life. Just my unprofessional two-cent opinion...

how true. the ones in the (good) relationship have a rush of pea (phenylethylanine) which acts as a narcotic, thus keeping them out of depression

btw, I could have sworn this story has been reported before

  semen junkies...

Good Lord! They've cracked our code.

It was great having them addicted but if this story has legs , it won't be long before they find out that we were about to raise the price. That's gonna piss 'em off.

Very happy girls having unprotected sex; the moment they get an STD, they become very depressed.
way to go!

But, to the source's credit, they mention the original study from 2001 done by Mr. Gallup.

  control variables?

The way its worded, i believe they compared women who used condoms. So i'd believe the relationship stability was similar between both groups, thus not mattering on the outcome. So some married women who use condoms vs some who dont, an equal number of 'single' women one-night-standers who use condoms and those that dont, etc....

I remember seeing a story some time back about sperm was good for the immune system when having a child. If the woman has (recieved) a few times from the man she concieves with the baby will be more likely to be healthy because the mothers body has had a chance to build immunities because of the sperm. I suppose that has limits.
