31-year-old Mohamed Hadfi, from Morocco, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for "acts of torture and barbarity leading to a permanent disability" after he tore his wife's eyes out following an argument.
The couple reportedly argued after his 23-year-old wife refused to have sex and demanded a divorce. Hadfi then attacked her, leaving her permanently blind. Hadfi will be permanently deported from France on the completion of his sentence.
Hadfi's lawyer argued for leniency saying his client was mentally ill and claimed that there were extenuating circumstances. "This is the result of a marriage that was arranged, not chosen," he said.
