A teacher has been reprimanded by both the state and the district for biting a student who was part of a group attempting to give him a wedgie. The Teacher Standards and Practices Commission called his actions a "gross neglect of duty".
"At least six wrestlers, weighing between 180 and 215 lb each, came up to Mr. Porath… in an attempt to give him a 'wedgie'. In the process of getting the boys off of him, Mr. Porath bit… a wrestler's leg leaving… teeth marks," said the commission.
The teacher now coaches baseball instead of wrestling according to Woodburn Superintendent Walt Blomberg. The wrestlers were disciplined but not suspended. Neither the student nor his family pursued a complaint.
