Parents and citizens in the Bhandara district of Maharshtra, India, have demanded a written apology and police action after an upper-caste principal sprinkled the school and students with with cow urine.
Cow urine is a commonly used remedy in Ayurveda, a traditional form of healing. It is said to cure a variety of ills including liver failure and obesity. In this instance the principle was ridding the school of a lower-caste teacher's evil spirit.
"Our principal sprinkled cow urine on Scheduled Class (lower class) students and said this is for your well-being," a student said. Although a complaint has been filed with police no action has been taken to date.
