Boy Kills Mother Duck and Ducklings With a Pencil

After a PA announcement at his school, a sixth grader owned up to killing a mother duck and her two ducklings, stabbing them to death with a pencil and distressing other children.

The children at the school had been watching the mother duck that they named Lucy, as well as her brood that were nested in a grassy creek bed, making sure no one disturbed them.

Kris Meckenstock, father of a seventh grader who was also watching over the brood, said "I think that kid obviously needs help."

Keep an eye on this one

Cruelty to animals is one of the biggest red flags for spotting dangerous psychopaths. This kid is gonna be a powderkeg when puberty hits.

  Right...

So its horrific when I child kills a duck / ducklings but when companies do it for us to eat thats cool.

This is sentimentalist rubbish (not the article but peoples general reactions to said article).

I would like to think there is a difference between killing for pleasure and killing for food. (I love my meat)

I also think there is a huge difference between hunters who kill for sport and what this child has done here.

the kid was immoral and unempathetic? No doubt, but we don't become immoral and unempathetic too by calling for his death.

He is a kid, we all did horrible things as kids.
I stuck a pin on my teachers chair as a kid, does that mean i enjoy harming people? no, i even feel sick everytime i remember his face when he sat on it.
He needs a good talk and a little explaining rather than the use of force. You don't fix something wrong by doing wrong yourself.

  it's just a kid

all little boys do stupid things... killing ants, spiders... other things besides that they're good at covering up. i admit stabbing the ducks to death with a pencil's a bit extreme, but arguably the worst thing you could do is make the kid feel ostracised - this would only make any latent psychopathic tendencies, as many like to point to, more potent. it's better just to sit the kid down and explain why it's not really on rather than isolate him and get him *help*...

He needs to be psychologically assessed first, to determined if this is just a tragic mistake or whether it is indicative of a deeper mental problem. As noted higher up, cruelty to animals (usually kittens) is a red flag to psychopathic behavior that is shared particularly among the worst breed of psychopaths - those who torture their victims to death.

he probably just got sick and tired of everyday hearing it in and out, at the end of the day your tired you dont give a sh8t about Pa announcements unless you play a sport and here comes some happy go lucky loud person "AND LUCY TODAY WALKED ACROSS THE FIELD AND TOOK A CRAP AND ATE A BERRY AND THE DUCKLINGS STILL CANT MOVE" he probably said i hate that bit*ch those ducks are going down.

  We Need stronger Pencil controls..

I mean any can walk into any store and buy a pencil.. And the Pens are even worse.. they give them away for free.. There needs to be some legislation on the sale and use of pens and a pencils.. At least a 5 day hold period.

  Come on people,

This is NOT about gun control, this about a kid who killed a mother duck and her ducklings by stabbing them with a pencil. A normal kid would have paused at one, and felt the import of whta they had done, but to continue to kill all of them shows signs of sociopathy and an inability to empathise. While the lack of empathetic response is more common in children, on this scale is an indicator that needs to be assessed closely.

true, he should get help, but people should bear in mind he is a kid, and the way they react or treat him because of this can have a huge effect on him and his development.

  Sad

People pretend that a child is somewhat pure and innocent. The truth of course, is that they havn't had full programing and thus right from wrong isn't complete. The truth is, there is nothing as pure and cruel as a child.

  by: seniorgato     05/08/2007 06:39 PM
  Well maybe

The duck attacked him and the ducklings threatened to turn him in. Seriously though wouldn't turning himself in after the PA announcement show remorse? Or at least responsibility?

"The truth of course, is that they havn't had full programing and thus right from wrong isn't complete."

I might agree with this if the kid was 5 or 6. But he's 11-12. A 12 year old should know that stabbing animals to death with a pencil is not considered "right". Age is not really a good argument with this one.

  if I was his dad...

...I would have made him go get the ducks, strip them, and cook them.

Then I would be arrested for child cruelty but that little shit wouldn't do it again.

ok, what if the kid did pause after killing the mother duck & thought OH MY GOD I killed the mother, these ducklings are going to die, he did the most human thing he could in that case

You make a valid argument. Age isn't a determinate factor, however depending on the childs surroundings, they may still be missing information. I tend to believe you really don't truly understand right from wrong until your teens, and then hormones lie to you.

Back in the day this would be fixed by a realy severe beating.

  try to make this short...

I'm confused of the comment that when a child torture animals grows up as killers or whatever. Not naming names, I knew a kid during my childhood. He was quite and very nice. One day I found him cutting baby chicks with razor, it seems he was de-skinning them alive. I also seen a syringe nearby so I assume he used that too. I didn't tell anyone because I don't know at the time of the ramifications, just that it was gross. I haven't talked to him for at least 21+ years now, moved away from area. I keep a close contact with an old friend of mine that knows the guy (used to be in same church), lives within miles from him. Last time I heard, he has happy family and his own construction contracting business. Stand up guy! So maybe he was at therapists or maybe not but to this date no mass killings in that area. -- Would I change that fact I didn't tell anyone when I was young from what I known today, yes I would in a heart beat.
