Man Successfully Uses Chainsaw to Decapitate Himself

A 24-year-old German man managed to cut off his own head with an electric chainsaw after he stabbed his father in their Cologne apartment. The 70-year-old man was found near death when police arrived.

Senior prosecutor Alf Willwacher said, "We do not believe any third party was involved." According to neighbors, the pair went into seclusion several years ago after their mother allegedly committed suicide.

  DANG!!!!!

I wonder what method did he use...hard to imagine that sheer determination and a good swing made it all the way through.

  Hm...

I guess you'd have to tape the trigger to keep it up to speed.

Thanks...I'll give it a try

(just kiddin')

  Ya know,

there are less painfull ways to go...maybe a bullet to the head, or maybe just use that knife (or whatever) you used on pops.

  Goodness!

Judging from the "found near death" comment, this plan didn't work too cleanly. I'm imagining horrific half decapitated but alive man...jeez.

I sure the father was found near death, not the son who successfully sawed his head off.

...I see now!
He used the knife on the old man (and didn't finish the job) then turned the handy chainsaw on himself!

Apparently, there's a remarkably high fail rate when it comes to ending your life. This guy probably didn't want to wake up in the hospital a few hours after attempting to kill his father and then himself. It's sad, but such is life.

  Wow!

Fun neighbors eh?

Messed up home life anyone?

  But What I want to know is...

the make and model of that chainsaw.. Cuts your head clean off and doesn't foul the chain or slow down.. very nice saw.

  Yarrrrr

That's a MAN's way to commit suicide!
None of that prissy pill swallowing, wrist slashing techniques can compare!

  by: Mr_dudeman   05/10/2007 06:09 AM
  hmm.

maybe he set it on the ground and made himeself fall on it in such a way that he severed his neck... otherwise that guys got a good swing or great determination.

@story: Way to go, champ!

@crosimoto: "Thanks...I'll give it a try "

Let us know how it works out.

  I am impressed

Electric chain saws suck! They have no power, small teeth on the chain and are cheaply built. Now a Stihl 090 will take your head off in about ½ a second, but an electric….that’s like sawing down a tree with a butter knife.

  Okay, this is crazy

Even with a lot of momentum there is no way that a whirling chain would just lop off his head by his own hands. From their own description, there couldn't have been even a little strand of skin left or it'd be a partial decapitation.
The word "Successfully" is truly the word to use here as I can't imagine a complete decapitation suicide by a chainsaw without the use of wires, or mechanisms to achieve it.

@valk
I've got one that's pretty good... as long as it doesn't trip the breaker. Then it gets kinda annoying.

@seniorgat
As I said earlier... tape the trigger. I don't think it would take a lot to snap through the vertebrae, and then it's smooth sailing from there.

  Wow.

Great conversation here! Any other creative ways to commit suicide?
I think my favorite is self immolation, Buddhist-priest-of-the-Diem-regime style.
