A poll of over 1,000 has shown that over 1 in 10 people do not brush their teeth daily. The British Dental Health Foundation poll also revealed that the number of those not brushing their teeth is 8 times higher than last year.
The survey showed that the number of those who only brushed a few times a week has increased from 1.5% (last year) to 12% and showed that people flossed with bizarre items. However, the number of people brushing for less than 2 minutes has declined.
Dentists warned that while oral health has improved over the last 30 years more should be done. Dr Carter, the British Dental Health Foundation chief executive urged people to have better oral hygiene habits for better oral and general health.
I instantly denied that, then realised... you only have to go to the local pub to see people whose teeth at completely screwed. I would imagine that the reason for this statistic comes from the over 40's, as the majority of them to be realistic couldn't care less.
I don't think it's a problem by any means in the younger generation though...
But I chew gum a lot.(that takes care of the breath) And I live in an area with flourodated water. This takes care of the teeth. And I don't smoke.(therefore my teeth son't get discolured. Yes I will admit I am a slob.
i brush my owe so lovely teeth every day, so im not 1 in 10. problem is there were alot of kids at school that didnt which was just eww. im paranoid about my teeth lol. i went so far as to get those chewing brushes with toothpaste on them.
wow, is there anything you're not an expert on? btw, fluoride occurs naturally in ALL water sources. don't drink water everyone. you'll get cancer. it's just the communist and anarchist media controlling you!
but seriously folks, low exposures to toxins are usually beneficial to you. it's called hormesis. radiation and alcohol are two examples.
I don't clean my teeth very often... not by choice. I have neurological difficulties which make it difficult for me to take care of myself... my hygiene in general is actually pretty bad. I don't say that with pride... but also I'm not going to blame myself for it. I try. Luckily, I have a wife who has similar difficulties (though her teeth are white). Also... two dentists, in two different countries, have said my teeth are in great condition (just a bit yellow). :)
is not limited to brits only. I must say, have come across many people who dont brush their teeth and I, being a father monitor this healthy issue on mine everyday.
My Kids would wake up, go sit on the table, have breakfast, run in the bathroom, shower, come out get dressed, back in the bathroom, brush their teeth and off they head to school. Anything wrong with that! seems not, but after I observed, noticed that white paste that sticks to ceramic one too many times.
So I decided to monitor what exactly they do when brushing their pearlys. 1st thing that caught my attention was duration. They would brush their teeth in flat 20 seconds, rush outta bathroom and off to school. All that pasty, sticky stuff is actuall tooth paste not used, just spewed off to rinse.
Two weeks of this observation, got them Oral B timered tooth brush with attachements such as the humming bird. Humming bird is for flossing, the brush rotates and after two minutes changes pulses and sound of whirling.
This gives them the sense of two minutes intervals, uses less paste and enhances the cleaning procedure.
At my age, have been to a dentist twice, have all my teeth, 32 of them and my children envy the white smile.
I don't brush my teeth twice daily because I believe its bad for my teeth.
Obviously I don't want gum infections and bad breath, so I usually give them a once over in the morning before going out to work but at weekends I often let it slip.
The way I see it, the recommendations to brush often and hard comes from dentists, whos interest it is in for your teeth to fall appart.
...I'm a tooth brushing fiend...I can't leave the house unless I've brushed. Aparently it's paid off...I've had a cavity once in my entire life and the dentist always says what excellent teeth I have :) As for the kiddo...I found a kid's toothbrush that has a little blinking light on it that tells them how long to brush..works pretty good! Now I just have to teach him to spit out the toothpaste so I can eventually move him to the regular kind! LOL Luckily he still uses the toddler stuff that's safe enough to swallow.
a similar survey might show even higherfigures for many other countries, be nice!
Koultunami: same here, but according to my dentist, the colour also depends on your skin colourand many other factors. I don't know about your skin colour, but it goes along the lines that the ligher the skin colour is, the darker yourteeth will be compared to someone with dark skin. However, it relies on many other factors too. Just keep up te goo work, at least you know it is good for you!
I can honestly comment that this is no surprise whatsoever. I always hated how the Americans in particular painted us as having awfully yellow, crooked teeth until I started paying attention to how they look myself. I REALLY look after my teeth and they're pretty much perfectly straight and discoloured only slightly by smoking but some people in this country must honestly not care at all about their appearance. The worst thing is that somehow, the people with the worst teeth seem to get on television, giving us an even worse name. Have any of you Americans ever seen 'comedy' double-act Mitchell and Webb? How on earth can you let your teeth get like that? As if they don't have enough money to do something about it!
who said he brushes his teeth 3 or 4 times a week, that is truly terrible. I'd hate to get into any sort of close contact conversation with you. You must stink!
