Heathrow East terminal which will replace terminals 1 and 2 has been given planning permission by London Mayor Ken Livingstone and Hillingdon Council.
This Heathrow East part of the project (expected to be completed by 2012) will cost £1.5bn and is part of a £6.2bn, 10-year investment plan to redevelop Heathrow; the plan also includes a new terminal (5) and the revamping of Terminal 4.
Mr Livingstone expressed his satisfaction that the scheme "puts energy efficiency and renewables at the heart” of the new plans. He added that climate challenges will shape new developments & that Heathrow “will lead the way to meet those challenges"
