Josh Douglas, a police officer from Iowa, is suing McDonald's over a chicken sandwich he purchased from a store which contained phlegm. Douglas only discovered the contamination while removing the lettuce and tomato because he didn't like them.
He and his partner returned to the store and two teenaged workers admitted to copying a movie where a cook spits on a burger ordered by a police officer. Both employees were fired. One later apologised to Douglas.
The officer attempted to negotiate a settlement for over a year before filing the lawsuit. Douglas says that he is more interested in accountability and safe food handling than the money.
