Child Drowns In Wave Pool With 6 Life Guards On Duty

A 6-year-old boy died in the "wave pool" attraction at the Great America Amusement Park in Santa Clara, California.

Two life guards were in the pool and four more were positioned around the pool, which is the size of half a Football field.

The attraction containing 355,000 gallons of water generates large waves and at its shallowest is zero feet and it's deepest, six feet. It was unclear whether the boy's mother was supervising him directly.

  Negligence yes, but...

it's not that difficult to drown in a wave pool. Assuming the boy wasn't wearing arm floaties or a life jacket, I can easily imagine him getting knocked off a floating tube while the waves are going and being dragged down by current and concussed or even getting kicked down by other unsuspecting folks in the pool. The source article says the boy was 4 so he was probably tossed around like a piece of drift wood... or a very small rock.
