Cheating Husband Sends Flowers to Other Woman. Sues Florist when Caught by Wife

A federal lawsuit against online florist 1-800-FLOWERS, INC. by Missouri City, Texas resident Leroy Greer after the company sent a "thank you" note to his home for a purchase he had made for another woman. His wife was the recipient of the note.

The purchase of flowers and a teddy bear was made a few weeks prior to the note of thanks being sent to the residence. Leroy and his wife were in the process of reconciling their rocky marriage when the note arrived at the home in the mail.

Mrs. Greer followed up on the note and found that the purchase included a note that read, "Just wanted to say I love you," and was sent to another woman. She refiled her divorce papers, asking for a large settlement.

Ok, this should make for good discussion...
I could be argued that the guy was a complete dumbass for not being cautious enough to pay in cash at a brick and mortar store and thus preserve his anonymity. On the other hand, when I pay for an item or service, I want only what I paid for and do not want to hear from the company again unless I call them. I can see where the guy would be pissed.

Of course, that's not to say that he didn't get what he deserved.

OMG. This is a great story!
Nice find. I do have to say that the matter of the wife upping her alimony and/or support demands is nothing short of despicable.

  Ref: Nice find
It wasn't a difficult one. I saw it on the television news while at work. I figured that someone would have beaten me to this one.

  It will be interesting
to hear the outcome of this one... 800-flowers should be held partially responsible, but maybe he forgot to uncheck the "can we advertise to your more" button when ordering.

Being in this business, they should have known, flowers, chocolates, are items sent to all; wives and Girlfriends. For them to send a Thank you note, meaning do business with us again, however we dont care who gets this note is like, running a few hours Motel and calling the persons home to verify their address!! WTF.

SUE them for all their worth.

  What a fool.
I can't keep up with one woman, hardly fathom 2.
But if I were doing this as he did. I would have at least used her Credit Card.
If your going to be stupid you might as well go all out.

people are more worried about the florist sending a thank you note ignoring the fact that the man who ordered the flowers was CHEATING on his wife.

if the man didn't do anything ---> WRONG <--- there would have been ---> NO PROBLEMO <--- to begin with regarding the thank you note!.

does this mean the conscience of some people is reaching to a stage that i like to call 'retardation'?

i guess it probably does.

There's nothing wrong with 1-800-FLOWERS extending their gratitude for his business. This guy was just a dumbass and this will fall from under him in no time. I hope 1-800-FLOWERS finds a way to counter-sue.

  Two Sides, One @ bala_mt
I see two ways on this .....

[1] (@bala_mt) Do you know there is the correspondace button you mentioned? I looked a bit but did not go thru any ordering process. If there is - well, that's all folks, eh

[2] Being a monogamous male (and dern tootin' proud of it!), I can't help but think he had this coming.

To add, it would not surprise me a bit if binding contracts were brought up by the WIFE'S attny, leading the man to drop it (because Red Foreman says he's a DUMBASS !!!! lmao)

  Reiterate Usage
"monogamous", in my sense, to mean "one mate at one time".

  I fail
to see how it's the flower shops fault for sending a thank you note to the address of purchase in hopes of future business. The guy is at fault. He's the one screwing around, that's not 1800FLOWERS fault. If I were the judge I'd laugh at hime, tell him to keep it in his pants, ball up the lawsuit and throw it at him.

  I Had A Similar Ordeal...
I stayed at a La Quinta Inn (hotel) a few months ago. I didn't not make reservation. I just showed up in the middle of the night and stayed over. A couple weeks later I received a thank you note in the mail with offers on upcoming promotions. Luckily I am not married and wasn't at risk of getting busted. When I received their letter I couldn't help but think "imagine if I was married and stayed the night with a lover". It's funny to see someone really get busted this way.
  by: creep   08/11/2007 12:52 AM
  @ creep
"....imagine if I was married...."

I notice you leave that quite open-ended.

by: Discarded Vet   08/11/2007 12:59 AM
I have absolutely zero sympathy for this guy and I hope the judge laughs his case out of court.
  by: StarShadow     08/11/2007 05:05 AM
It's always nice when you buy flowers and then the company owns you. Nice work!

"She refiled her divorce papers, asking for a large settlement."

Good. Don't get mad get even!
  by: Bluep     08/11/2007 09:49 AM
  The guy
deserves it.

Also, the wife has much more of a case for a settlement in the divorce now it can be proved that the man was cheating. The legal system works in that way, by suing the flower people, the man is effectively threatening a witness in a legal (divorce) case.

I think he should get done for that too.
  by: Maxx20     08/11/2007 05:42 PM
  This is crap...
All of you who say the guy deserves it must not have read the full article. He was in the middle of a divorce - NOT WITH HIS WIFE AT THE TIME - when he sent that girl those flowers. If 1-800-FLOWERS had sent the "Thank You" note in a timely manner - not months later - it would not have had the impact it did (his estranged wife probably never would have seen the note). He had apparently decided to try again with his wife and THEN the "Thank You" note showed up. This is the fault of 1-800-FLOWERS, not his own fault.

I don't blame the guy. When he had this girlfriend (as the original story indicates) his marriage seemed to be over. I don't see any difference between this case and if they had actually been divorced, had other relationships, then later reconciled. The timing of the reconciliation only meant that they had a chance of saving the money it would cost to get divorced and then remarried later. Since the wife blew her stack so much about something that happened when she had already thrown her marriage away (she had already filed for divorce) shows me that this marriage was not going to work, anyway. The fact that she and her lawyer suddenly decide that the husband should now pay much more money in the divorce is just vindictive. It doesn't cost $4000 per month to effectively raise a child, much less $6000. Child support orders that high make me sick. They are more about being vindictive than what's actually in the child's best interests.

This marriage didn't have a chance. I just hope no one else thinks of that when he's suing the crap out of 1-800-FLOWERS for sending a note months later. He ought to sue them for the difference between what he was going to pay and what his wife is asking for now. Not just the lump sum payment, but the extra $2000 per month until the child is 18 years old (longer if the child goes to college - depending on Texas law).

  @Nooze Worthy
I am glad you made the last comment, "Of course, that's not to say that he didn't get what he deserved."
Or you would have had a right ear bending from me.

Glad the two timing jerk got caught, and I wish there was a law to swing his butt to the wall for it.

Thank you! Some posters read only what they want to read. Yours is the best comment in this thread and the one with any real logic.

  Oh My Goodness
My husband (we are separated) did the same thing & I called ProFlowers - pretended I was the other woman & questioned the card. They told me exactly what the card said. So I confronted the other woman.....My husband didn't sign his name - only initials & she didn't even know who they were from. Great way to end a marriage - on a woman who doesn't even know who J.C. is....Ha Ha Ha
