Hugo Chavez Changes Venezuela's Time

Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's president, is seeking to change the country's time zone. In September the time will move back by thirty minutes in an effort to boost the amount of natural light to residents.

Science and Technology Minister Hector Navarro stated the measure sought" a more fair distribution of the sunrise." This will help the children of school age who are up pre-dawn for school.

He also stated "Very rigorous scientific studies have determined that...the metabolic activity of living beings is synchronised with the sun's light."

A more fair ditribution of the sunrise? These socialists... you can't just expect someone to give it to you! You have to earn your sunlight!

I guess when you become President for Life

you also become a time lord. I’m worried about Hugo going off the deep end. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

  What a Fruitcake

This is rediculous. Why doesn't he just go by the Daylight Savings Time that is currently in use? No sense why this man has to always be contrite for the sake of massaging his own ego.

When Fidel croaks, Chavez is going to change his last name to Chavez-Castro.

@Hugo
"Chavez is president for life ...wow... that's news to me."

Being coy doesn't serve as a great defense for a dictator that rules by decree and is eliminating term limits.
Just saying...

  term limits.......so what

As for term limits ...many European companies don't have them ..incuding Spain , if people keep voting for Chavez that's called democracy (and worth remembering that every election he has won , which are quite numerous by now has been verified as totally fair with no fraud by every foreign observational body) , not like say...oooh that beacon of democracy we’ve all been told to worship and the last two recent fiascos there.
The decree thing has been answered on more than 3 occasions but just in case http://www.borev.net/ and as for the time change well as odd as it may seem everyone seems to agree its a good idea….even the NYT (link given above)..everyone except a few choice US corporate media outlets that is …come on we all know the ones ...
Oh and the now totally debunked Cuba references yawn here we go again http://www.borev.net/ Look like it or not Chavez is doing exceptionally down south and it looks like those he's ruling over are exceptionally pleased with the job he's doing ............mmmm que a Hitler reference now and give us all a good laugh .

"This is rediculous. Why doesn't he just go by the Daylight Savings Time that is currently in use? No sense why this man has to always be contrite for the sake of massaging his own ego."

being ignorant of the facts doesn't serve as a great attack .... but what the hell never stoppey you in the past... so fire away

but as Golinger says at the end of the decree explination "If you only read the US press, you must be very confused about Venezuela. The extreme levels of distortion, lack of fact checking and source verification and outright manipulation of information in the US media on Venezuela is quite troubling and dangerous in a nation that has waged wars based on false data and misleading policies."

Im getting soooo tired of your constant moaning about US corporate media, Im from the caribbean and down here the media from different countries are speaking out more and more about Chavez's dictatorial qualities...

Trinidad & Tobago, Bahammas, Antigua, barbados, you name it... I posted some websites of caribbean newspapers in the forums a while back you can go read what they're saying...

or better yet http://www.caribbeannewspapers.com/

I love all the right-wing neocon rhetoric

Lest we forget that here in the Good ole' USofA we have a thing called, dare I say, "Daylight Savings".

However since this wasnt created by Chavez, then his version is considered some tool of the devil by the right-wing establishment???

  you know

its always funny to see some of the people who claim to be so 'intelligent' drawing parallels when debating.

Hugo Chavez & Venezuela is being debated not USA!! its so silly when people always say 'Hey the US did this' or 'the US have this, so should we'

perhaps all you chavez fanboys should move to venezuela..

 by: keanu1982     12/10/2007 04:08 PM
  WTF

"perhaps all you chavez fanboys should move to venezuela.."

yeah if you say anything against the USA GET OUT ... is that the American way ?

actually Keanu there is one member here on sn who has moved to Venezuela maybe you should take up your venom with him ...lol

by: Hugo Chavez     12/10/2007 05:00 PM
  @keanu1982

It's also funny to see some people completely miss the point.

Time is essentially a bureaucratic decision. For example, the entire PRC is on Beijing time. I know this notion is a little hard for people to grasp, even though DST is such a blatant example right under their noses.

So, yes, Hugo Chavez, as the executive branch of his country's government, is seeking to change time. That's not to be considered Hugo Chavez, as supreme super villain of the Americas, unleashes his dictatorial might upon time itself!

Now do you get why "The US does it too" is absolutely relevant?

he's just fishing for some forum action ....probably has little to do
Sadly that dictator line carries very little weight after winning 11 elections and losing a referendum by 0.7% and accepting the result immediately .. wouldn’t happen in Florida I can tell you but nice try all the same …K

who might that be, Manila, Slave, L'anglias, You?? then again who cares!

yeah if you say anything against the USA GET OUT ... is that the American way ?

Did I say that? :tsk: for a guy that regularly lashes out at fox and corp media, you sure are good at contorting stuff.

Hey Hugo did you know that 50.7% of Venezuelans are 'traitors' lol

Did you know that 50.7% of Venezuelans handed a victory to the 'North American Empire' by rejecting Fuehrer Chavez referendum. lol

Heil Mein Fuehrer!

Actually my plans over the next few years will probably place me in SE Asia. Not sure who moved there? I know a few people personally that have though.

Anyhow I see nothing wrong with what Chavez has done here. It does nothing but saves energy part of the year.

Unless you are critical of him actually trying to help peoples pocket books when their energy bills come in the mail, I dont see what the issue is here? He hasnt done anything wrong except introduce a form of daylight savings essentially.

Unless you have some ill's with daylight savings or perhaps believe that Satan was the founder of such an idea, I dont see how you can criticize the man unless instead you are just trying to direct some unfounded hatred of someone you do not know or policies you have no clue regarding. This seems to be the case in this topic at least.
