Tsunami Warning Issued for Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 7.9 shook the Indonesian capital of Jakarta today shaking buildings and infrastructure for several minutes according to initial reports.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning saying, "Earthquakes of this size have the potential to generate a widespread destructive tsunami that can affect coastlines across the entire Indian Ocean Basin."

The area affected is prone to seismic upheaval on account of it’s location close to the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a tsunami in December 2004 left 230,000 people dead across 12 countries.
