UK Ready to Help US Bomb Iran

The UK is ready to jump in with America on a mission to bomb Iran according to an investigation by leading US journalist Seymour Hersh. In the report it is claimed that the US is preparing for 'surgical' bombing raids again military targets.

According to a senior European official, UK prime minister Gordon Brown gave the idea a positive reception. Intelligence agencies believe Iran is assisting terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.

Hersh said that a retired American 4-star general claimed the UK wanted 'revenge' for the navy hostage incident. He also said that the bombing plan "could work if it's in response to an Iranian attack". Australia and Israel are also interested.

  So there we have it

another nutty plan in the world of killing everything we can.

  Maybe

this will start WW3, maybe it won't. Who's to say?

But the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have both been total cock-ups. What's to say this one's going to be any different?

More is at stake this time. We're not going after a splintered terrorist organization. We're talking about a strongly religious country with something of an unpredictable leader. This war could be over in a month, or it could go on for decades.

I know which one Bush and his cronies would prefer.

Hope you all feel safer now!

  Yeh

I have a feeling though, as Iran can't strike the US / UK (except by sponsoring terrorist attacks) that a full ground war like Afghan / Iraq won't be required.

If it is, it will be Israel that does it.

One thing we need to be aware of in the UK is that if our government do go and recklessly attack yet another country. We, the poor citizens may have to suffer another terrorist outrage.

I think it should be mandatory for the politicians to go and fight in the wars they start. That would soon quieten them down.

From a pragmatic point of view

The UK has three carriers due for replacement (2 active one in reserve) in 2014 that we (probably) cant sell on to anyone.
If one gets hit and sinks, well, is it really that big a loss?

Same goes for our 250ish Tornado's, replaced by Typhoons and 100ish Harriers being replaced by Lightenings.

Were buying new stuff and scrapping the old, so them getting shot down, big whoop.
Obviously crew losses are a different matter

Iran isnt much to fear except for one thing

They have the ability to hurt us at home. Basically all they have to do is send a few people to Mexico or Canada and hop over the border, rent a few UHauls and fill them with fertilizer and there go several large building. It doesnt take much to strike back at the US and I think if attacked, Iran would probably do something like this.

Basically what I am saying is they would do everything in their power to attack us back and that more than likely it would be on the home front.

  by: slavefortheman     10/01/2007 03:55 PM
Can't they just leave well enough alone?

Haven't you killed enough of my family, Mr. President? Bring troops home, don't rerout them elsewhere to where they get killed and then get civilians hurt at home, too. Apparently, you're one of the common people who have never seen what a war does to a country when it hits home base. Get off your power trip.

"The UK has three carriers due for replacement......If one gets hit and sinks, well, is it really that big a loss?"

You retard. With over 700 personnel serving on such a ship, it being sunk would be slightly annoying to say the least. You could do with serving in the Navy for a few years. Your name implies that you consider yourself to be somehow knowledgeable - consider again.

Calm down a moment, read what I said again, pay special attention to "Obviously crew losses are a different matter".

  by: AnsweringQuestions     10/01/2007 04:11 PM
  @AnsweringQuestions

Regardless of crew losses (although how you sink an aircraft carrier without killing anyone is a mystery) the sinking of any ship would not be a 'nevermind' situation. The same goes for our aging Tornadoes. You are talking about war and had you served in a war zone for any length of time you might realise that its not something to be taken lightly.

  @Flashby

Perhaps you can explain it to me.

We have carriers that are going to be scuttled because they cant be sold as ships and arent worth selling as steel.
Does it matter whether we sink them or Iran does?
Beyond we'd be able to strip them of anything valuable?

Just saying, I'd expect the imminant replacement and scrapping of the equipment the war will be fought with would have some effect on the risk its exposed to, if you can explain why thats not the case, please do.

These people are going to drag us in to another war weather we like it or not it seems.

"Does it matter whether we sink them or Iran does?"

Are you insane? Traditionally we decommission ships and, at best, flog them to a third world nation (previously we tended to sell to India, Pakistan or Chile) or turn them into razor blades. Then we would commission new ones. What you appear to be suggesting is that a war would somehow be a much more apt way of decommissioning a large chunk of our navy and air force. It also seems that you think that because the hardware is somewhat dated that the risks of it being destroyed are less relevant. That is just ridiculous and if all you can do is think in economic terms, like some number-crunching loner, then you should be concerned about yourself.

  Something Tells Me

That if this happens, attacking Iran, it will be the last straw for the rest of the Muslim people - meaning, all the Muslims that profess and live non-violently - are going to say enough is enough, kill the white man, all they do is try to conquer our countries one by one.

And then it's every Muslim against every white man. Can ya blame them?

Yet I, and a gazillion other white people, didn't want this to even happen.

My first comment
"From a pragmatic point of view"

"Traditionally we decommission ships and, at best, flog them to a third world nation (previously we tended to sell to India, Pakistan or Chile)"

Who have stopped buying them, we've sank several ships recently after failing to find buyers.

"What you appear to be suggesting is that a war would somehow be a much more apt way of decommissioning a large chunk of our navy and air force"

I simply said its another option that some people, like Brown, may take into account.

"It also seems that you think that because the hardware is somewhat dated that the risks of it being destroyed are less relevant."

Well, yeah, especialy because we'll be destroying it anyway.

"That is just ridiculous and if all you can do is think in economic terms, like some number-crunching loner, then you should be concerned about yourself."

Perhaps you should be concerned you cant think about it in economic terms at all?
Especialy when our High Chancellor, wait no, former chancellor, is now prime minister.

Just putting it out there as an idea on how our government may be thinking, because it wouldnt occur to any bugger else on here

Nobody in our government is thinking in terms of war being a good way of decommissioning sections of our armed forces, only you. You are insane.

  @Flashby

Twisted much?

"Nobody in our government is thinking in terms of war being a good way of decommissioning sections of our armed forces,"

Thats not what I said or meant.
Well, actualy, it is in a way
You really think this government cares that much about our armed forces?

imagine what it'll be like for non-muslim mostly middle eastern people!
west hates them and muslims hate them at the moment, that will only make everybody hate them more when they don't agree with either!

This is what's going to happen

The US, UK and Israel will bomb Iran, they'll just bomb it to hell and destroy all infrastructure so that it can never be a military or nuclear threat.

All Iranians and pretty much the rest of the middle-eastern muslims will hate them with a vengeance for generations to come.

There will be so much paranoia for terrorist retaliations and bombings and whatnot, that the "security" measures put into place will make it so that you have no freedom whatsoever. It will be better than anything Bin laden (if he's even real) can ever hope to accomplish.

Sounds good to me.

Whats up with all of these 'Iran War' articles.. looks like somebody's been working overtime.

  My war theory

Bush and Co go ballistic. Literally. Im betting they use low yield nuclear weapons to strike Iran. That is tactical nuclear weapons. Just a few years ago the US military lowered the rating on low yield nuclear weapons to be now considered "Conventional" weapons. Even read about it on SN. I believe it was before the Iraq invasion that they made this change. There is no reason why they would change this designation unless they have plans to use them.

Both WWI and II were started by imperialists. It looks the same way with the oncoming of WWIII. Nothing will stand in the way of Americas imperial ambitions. That includes millions of people.

Unfortunately Einstein may be correct... Sticks and stones... Those will be the weapons after the next world war.

"....Nothing will stand in the way of Americas imperial ambitions. That includes millions of people...."

There are millions of Americans that DISclude ourselves from this mentality.

Don't flame us all.

and it is frightinly so

  by: captainJane     10/02/2007 06:55 AM
  Meh?

Let me think.

The coalition of the willing bombs Iran. Iran stop selling them oils, and takes Irak on ground and prevents Oil from Irak to get to the willings.

Well, sounds hurtful to me.

  WTF PEOPLE!?

"Australia and Israel are also interested"
Every morning I wake up and it's the same old, the world is slowly teetering to the brink of dissaster. If this war does take place then we're doomed, all of us. We need a regime change on our own soils before more blood gets spilled for oil.

  by: Zmethod     10/02/2007 08:31 AM
This just not bear thinking about...

I am trembling here!

  by: captainJane     10/02/2007 08:46 AM
  Regime change?

Regime have changed.

Canada went right wing.
France went right wing.
Germany went right wing.
Etc.

So, who's the next right wing pro war to get elected?

  by: RV3   10/02/2007 09:41 AM
  @Darkangel

Assuming that you are Middle eastern.
You are hated because you are middle eastern and yet not in connection with your M-E cousins due to religion.

Westerners hate you because, you simply are middle eastern and forgot about it, while siding with them Westerners and yet you hate war.
Either you are with them or with.

GWB the 2nd.
