Sesame Street DVDs Dubbed ‘Not Suitable for Children'

Early episodes of the legendary children's TV show Sesame Street which have been released on DVD come with a new warning stating that Sesame Street: Old School is for adults-only.

The reason for the warning has been put down to the fact that children nowadays are unprepared to witness the likes of Cookie Monster holding and eating a pipe and that Oscar the Grouch is too miserable for today's kids.

Volumes 1 and 2 of the popular children’s programme were first aired in 1969 and were brought to you by the letter P and the number 4.

Yes, lets ban childrens TV that trys to teach kids and makes it somewhat enjoyable, they must just be bombarded with flashing colours and unintellegable noises.

  I credit Sesame Street
... for teaching me how to properly use the silent "e". All I remember from the song was the "e" in a cape, portrayed as a superhero, and part of the song: "Who can turn a man into a mane, who can turn a can into a cane?" But that little cartoon instantly taught me something I was really struggling with in school.

They are basically criminalising the childhoods of most of the country?

Did the very people making these decisions not grow up watching sesame street?

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard!
"Oscar the Grouch is too miserable for today's kids"

Because obviously the world is such a better, happier place than it was in 1969! What's wrong with kids watching a character who is miserable? This is just ridiculous!

  Oh cry me a river
Today's youth are so stupid that they had to make poor Cookie Monster go on a goddamned diet!

  no no no
One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
Came to the ladybugs' picnic

One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
And they all played games
At the ladybugs' picnic

They had twelve sacks so they ran sack races
They fell on their backs and they fell on their faces
The ladybugs 12
At the ladybugs' picnic

They played jump rope but the rope it broke
So they just sat around telling knock-knock jokes
The ladybugs 12
At the ladybugs' picnic

One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
And they chatted away
At the ladybugs' picnic

They talked about the high price of furniture and rugs
And fire insurance for ladybugs
The ladybugs 12
At the ladybugs' picnic

  oh please
I've been dying for the old episodes with Mr. Hooper before all the annoying s**t like Elmo, Telly, and Zoe came screaming and screeching onto the set. I think my kids know better than to eat a pipe. I'd rather expose my kids to a grouchy garbage dweller than that thing called Elmo.

Some of todays episodes do play pieces of animated songs from the old series. That Ladybug Picnic Song, Suzie Kabloozie and others. I cant say exactly which ones since it's so annyoing we rarely watch it. At least now we can with the two new X rated volumes out.

  One can
only hope that when the present "woosified" kids grow up, they will see how they'd been protected too much and remove such "protections".

  *sigh* PC stikes again
@AQ jeebus christ man. they arent talking about banning the DVDs. they arent even talking about putting a explicit lyrics sticker on them. its an attack of the PC dummies. nothing more.

its rather sad that PC has gone this far. ... sesame street now has cookie monster on a diet. there is now an AIDS infected puppet character on the show... what else?

@Hugo hell yah i remember that song. im watching that clip now. that song has some *funk* man.

  Not Seasame Street

  by: truhawg   11/21/2007 04:48 PM
cookie monster dieting is a tad silly, I agree. but I don't see anything wrong with a character with AIDS
  by: jeniq     11/21/2007 05:52 PM
  Aw, man...
Are kids too stupid for Sesame Street now?
by: Mister crank     11/21/2007 06:44 PM
props to the late Jim Henson
who knew the dangers of sugarcoating.
  by: Calilac     11/21/2007 07:09 PM
  If we...
..ever spawn a brood, I'm going to have them growing up on the original, now banned episodes of Sesame Street, Loony Tunes, Tom & Jerry, et al. I'll be damned if there will ever be a purple dinosaur, teletubbies, Dora the Explorer, or Hana Montana on any TV or computer screen that graces our household.

Electric Company, 321 Contact, and Square One TV will play intermitently with Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Later, there will also be DVD sets of approved National Geographics, Discovery Channel, and Nova documentaries and mini-series.

Don't forget the wonderful Mr. Wizard. :)
  by: NoTalentAssclown     11/22/2007 03:51 AM
Someone should nominate you (and your other half) as 'parents of the year', if you ever spawn a brood. that is.
  by: StarShadow     11/22/2007 06:17 AM
good idea. Not only are you going to be showing something that you have already watched and approved of, it will be without commercials!
  by: jendres     11/22/2007 07:33 AM
  Electric Company.
