Surgeon Continues to Operate as the Hospital Burns

London: Dr Fiona MacNeill, a surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital, has calmly completed an operation on a breast cancer patient while a fire raged elsewhere in the hospital. Several other operating theatres and wards were destroyed.

At this stage it appears that the surgery was very successful. The blaze did tens of millions in damage despite the efforts of 125 firefighters. The hospital will be reopening a number of sections over the coming days and the cleanup is underway.

"I was aware it was a very serious fire, but I didn’t know how far away it was. I decided to carry on as normal. We’re trained to deal with emergency situations. But I must admit this was a once in a lifetime one for me," said MacNeill.

  wow

I am willing to bet that most doctors would have just ran like a coward and left the drugged up and cut open patient to die. I am VERY excited to hear that there are a few decent people still making the news, not just horrible criminals or disasters!

I was on the end of my chair reading that.

Great to hear something good about hospitals, some are worth praise that is for sure.

... you know how liable he would have been if he had stopped? It wasn't even an option. He's certainly not superman. Be more impressed with the Air force officers working in Army hospitals in Iraq.

With a name like Fiona MacNeill I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a she. Furthermore, just because others are doing good work doesn't take away from the fact that she completed a successful operation under pressure.
